First Midwife's Appointment

We have booked our first appointment with the midwife at 9 weeks, which apparently lasts an hour. I just wondered what to expect from this? Is there anything I should do/take to be prepared?

Mine inolvd form filling, but I had done most of that as they send blank notes out here with appointment card. So we went through everything. Bloods were taken, the rest was just chatting about what to expect and answering questions if you have any. Mine took about 40 minutes.

Hello. I had mine on Monday (at 11 weeks) and it was about an hour. There were two midwifes (one student) and they gave me some booklets and notes, and spent quite a lot of time taking my history, and DH, and our families.

Then I also had to do a urine sample and a blood test.

I had a few questions I wanted to ask the midwife so I wrote them down in my diary before - I tend to forget everything when I'm in an appointment so it was useful to have them to refer to!

Although it was quite dulll stuff, I really enjoyed it and felt excited! Hope it goes well!

Hello just had mine today so had weight and height measured then medical history and given lots of advice. After that had blood pressure and then urine test followed by blood. Once that was over booked my scan. It's your chance to ask any questions so jotting them down is a great idea.

Thank goodness someone else is new to this too! Just found out I am 7 weeks and don't have first appointment until I am 12 weeks. Is that normal? Don't want to tell anyone til after scan so no idea if I need an earlier appointment or about anything else for that matter!
Thanks for the advice ladies

Lots and lots and lots of form filling. Height, weight, blood pressure, urine sample, sometimes booking bloods but sometimes they do this when you have your 12wk scan.

Take a urine sample and a bottle of water (surgeries are hot and you'll be there a while).

They'll also give you approximately 8 million leaflets, explain your care, give you your handheld notes etc.

Hidihi Fairly normal, my booking in appt was at nearly 14 weeks, followed by the scan immediately after.

Didn't have urine tested, and bloods were done by the phlebotomist at a later date because of my unco-operative veins.

There were lots of dull questions, weight/height taken down (weight never taken again though) and then I was given about thirty leaflets, almost all of them about BF Wink
