City Mini Jogger

Hi everyone!
I'm on the holy grail of pushchairs and would like your advice about the City Mini Jogger. I live in a city and have all shops/commodities near home, so am thinking that I'll do a lot of walking after baby's born. Would you recommend it? Am I being realistic about all the walking/going out? I'm a first timer so have no idea what to expect!!!

It's brilliant. The new 2011 model is improved and the carrycot attachment is much easier.

onadietcokebreak · 05/04/2011 22:59

Ps I had several buggies before this one!

nomoreheels · 05/04/2011 23:26

I'm getting one, in the new purple shade too. :) Can't wait...

onadietcokebreak · 06/04/2011 06:48

Jealous! I want the purple one!

valbona · 06/04/2011 07:08

Get a Maclaren Techno XT instead! it's easier to squeeze on and off London buses (if that's relevant to you), has a much much better sunhood (key for summer) and is easier to steer one-handed. I have experience of both!

natwebb79 · 06/04/2011 07:48

I'm definitely getting one! Having done my research it should fit nicely in the boot of my Fiat 500, looks dead easy to clip the wheels off and fold (see the demo video on the web site) and isn't too expensive compared to a lot of the more 'fashionable' brands. I quite fancy the purple one too - can I be cheeky and ask where you ordered yours? I've found one online shop that do them but I'm sure it said they're not available until June? Any way, I'm only 11 weeks so plenty of time yet!

nomoreheels · 06/04/2011 08:10

Ah... I'm very lucky in that I've got a contact which means I'm getting my order a bit early before they hit the shops. Sorry!

I wouldn't have minded waiting, but DD is due early June so I'm very grateful to get it sorted. I have seen photos though & the carry cot looks really sweet in purple. :)

onadietcokebreak · 06/04/2011 08:13

Valbona- I have had both too and completely disagree.

Just goes to show how subjective these things are.

Natwebb if you wait boots.com will have it soon and they regularly do 20% off and then there is the 10% off with the parenting code. Plus double points.

LittleMilla · 06/04/2011 08:56

I have got one...37 weeks and sat here looking at it now. Got ours new from an eBay shop shop.ebay.co.uk/pimpedclio/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 - looks like they import from US. Got it for £175 inc delivery, but then they sent wrong colour (got the green and grey instead of cream) and he offered us £55 off versus sending it back. Although we don't know what we're having (it looks a bit boyish)...but I cannot resist a bargain like that!

I also live in London in a first floor flat. This was literally the only one I could fold and carry when we went on a big testing binge. Also easy to get in and out of car and friends with babies all recommend it. We've also got a baby bjorn sling to compliment this...but I am expecting Shock looks from people that we're not putting our new born in a Buggaboo! Grin

Love it - the collapse mechanism is by far the best on the market.

Froggy81 · 06/04/2011 22:06

Thank you for your replies! Looks like I'm getting the City Mini Jogger then! I was worried about the collapse system, that it would go wrong after being used a few times but you've all reassured me. Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, who's going for the carrycot. Am due in early Sept so worried baby might be cold if no carrycot. Other question: carrycot or moses's basket?

OP posts:
onadietcokebreak · 07/04/2011 07:34

The mattress in the carrycot isn't suitable for overnight sleeping so if it's a choice between two I would say moses basket

However a Moses basket doesn't last long and I would buy one again. I would use a crib or if space permitted a bedside cot.

ethelina · 07/04/2011 08:00

I've got a BJCM:
The one-pull fold mechanism is frankly brilliant.
It fitted in my Mini boot so a Fiat 500 Envy will be easy.
The canopy is enormous, the biggest I've seen.
Its very manoeuverable.

I put my baby in from newborn, with a Sunshine Kids snuggle soft liner (amazon) for extra comfort and snugglyness. We never felt the need for attaching a carrycot or carseat. It was absolutely fine.

Downsides:
All the accessories including the front bar and the insect screen are extra, ours came with raincover but not all do.
The handlebar is not height adjustable.
The basket is awkward to get stuff in and out of.

Overall, I love it. I can't see us changing it for a stroller ever.

DomesticGoddess31 · 07/04/2011 08:12

mine just arrived :) After much research and i'm slightly embarrassed to admit, a detailed spreadsheet of specs and costs, I settled on the city mini. Baby not due till July so haven't used it for real yet but so far I'm v impressed. Arrived in a surprisingly small box, was so easy to put together I think my unborn baby could have done it, and is sooooo light. Its so unbelievably easy to fold and as someone has mentioned the canopy is huuuuuge. I haven't bothered with the carrycot because you can use the main buggy from birth, just put the seat flat, figured baby won't be in a carrycot for long anyway.

I ordered mine on boots website, using 20% off voucher from boots parenting club (which by the way wouldn't work online for some reason I've had to order and then call them to sort out the discount).

DomesticGoddess31 · 07/04/2011 09:23

oh I also got the maxi cosi cabriofix carseat from boots which can be attached if you buy adaptors (I got from John Lewis) and a raincover

practicallyimperfect · 07/04/2011 09:27

Bloody brilliant. I have had a few pushchairs.

I disagree about maclaren- it is umbrella fold so wouldn't fit in small boot. Bjcm folds one handed on buses. And the sun canopy is the best of any pushchair.

Have it, love it. In the tropics so sun canopy is a must.

We have the carrycot as well, wasn't sure but thought we might as well because we often go out in the evenings and we have a bedside crib anyway so baby wouldn't be sleeping in Moses basket. Plus although you can use the main part from birth I think it's nicer to have baby flat and facing you.

We have the maxi cosi pebble with it.

Baby not actually born yet though I've been testing it thoroughly! Lots of compliments about how clever it is and how compact Grin
