DH has flu - help!!

Hi all, am 34 weeks pregnant, yesterday DH came home from work with a fever and flu like symptoms. He hasn't seen his GP yet. I have woken up this morning with a slight sore throat but not sure if this is the start of flu or not. He has woken up feeling pretty rotten and will be ringing in sick today, which makes me realise he must feel bad as he never takes time off work.

I am planning on calling my m/w later on but just wondered if anyone could help with any advice in the meantime?

PS I had the flu jab earlier this year, not sure whether that will help me though?

If it is the flu, the flu jab should cover you, depending on what strain it is.

Does he actually have the flu though? What are his symptoms?

I think you just need to do what you would normally do in this situation for now - don't breathe his sneezes if you can avoid it, keep hands very clean, eat and rest properly.

He has a fever, sweats, cough/cold, his ear is blocked up and he feels rubbish (never normally does). Not sure what that means but it sounds flu like to me!

I am trying to keep my distance from him but he is off work today so we are in the same room together all day and the crap weather means we don't have any windows open and have the heating on currently.

I'd stay away from him if you can. And if not, just be scrupulous about hygiene. Don't kiss or hug him, make sure he puts tissues straight in the bin, both of you wash your hands often with antibacterial soap, and try not to touch your face after handling things he's handled - the TV remote, door handles, etc - as this is a classic way to transfer germs and viruses to your own mouth/nose/eyes.

And if he has flu and you've had the shot you should be fine. If he's got a virus though you could catch it.

My DH had something that was probably not actual flu but some other virus at the end of last week. It was more than just a cold and cough as he did look dreadful and said the room was spinning and he felt sick. I am 36 weeks pregnant, and I thought I had avoided but feel rubbish today and my nose is blocked. I only got about 4hrs sleep last night and can't decide if I feel rubbish just because I'm so tired or if I got so little sleep partly because of feeling ill. I could really do without this now, especially as I have things I need to go out and do in my first week of maternity leave and I can't have any of the medications DH has been living off

Steg sorry to hear you are going through this too.

Did you speak to your m/w about it at the time? If so what was the advice? I have left a message for mine but not heard from her today so am still clueless about what to do!

I had flu and my twins are still healthy - dh and dd1 didn't catch it either. Maybe get the detol out but babies are well protected and if you've had the jab you should be fine.
