Aching fingers

I'm 32 wks and am getting quite puffy hands and feet during the day, which I know is quite normal. But at night, when I wake up, I'm finding my fingers feel really stiff, as if I've been sleeping with them curled up tight or something.

It's a bit disconcerting. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it all part of the puffiness? And is there anything I can do? Does't tend to last into the day, though they're feeling a bit stiff right now.

Thanks in advance.

A friend had something similar and it was Carpal Tunnel, I htink its more common in pregnancy. www.babycenter.com/0_carpal-tunnel-syndrome-during-pregnancy_234.bc

You're not on your own, I'm 33 weeks and been experiencing EXACTLY this for about 3 or 4 days! It's so weird isn't it? The first time it happened I felt like someone else's hands had been grafted onto my wrists! Not sure if there's much we can do about it except follow the general advice for puffy bits which seems to be drink lots of water (oh goody even more trips to the loo...!)

Just hoping it clears up soon...

Yes, it's carpel tunnel brought on by pregnancy (the swelling tightens around your tendons and causes this) It took a fair few months for mine to subside after I had DD. The only thing my GP suggested to treat it was to sleep with my hands in the air Hmm

Pins and needles, numbness and stiffness to the point of complete paralysis are also symptoms (although they are only temporary - try going for a wee and removing your PJ bottoms when you can't grasp with your hands for the 1st 30 minutes of the day!).

You might want to try and practice opening and closing the buggy you've got because trying for the 1st time with seized hands which have no strength is a PITA. Oh and babygros without many poppers (or nighties) for newborns help.

Ahhh, my fond memories of pregnancy Smile
