Hi, I've just found out I'm pregnant and I really have no idea what to do? I am really happy and want to keep the bean but no ideas what I am actually suppose to be doing right now? I have no idea when my last period was ad have just been sitting trying really hard to get around about date but the last one I can remember was in January, and surely I cannot be 11 weeks and not have a clue? I was actually thinking more 4-6 weeks before my sit down think! I have had really bad morning sickness this week and for the two weeks prior to that I had labrynthitis. Anyway if anyone could offer me any advice I would so grateful!

Congratulations!

First thing you need to do is relax. Don't worry about your last period as the midwife will help you to work out an estimated due date and then they'll give an actual due date at your 12 week scan.

Second thing is to contact your GP on Monday and they will refer you to the community midwife for a booking in appointment. This is usually done at 8-10 weeks and it's where they set up all your notes and give you information on all your various choices (e.g., which hospital, screening tests, etc)

Do a Clearblue Digital test and it will tell you how far along you are.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!! Smile

Go and visit your GP, this is what I did when I found myself in your situation a few years ago, he kindly said well done and sent me on my way, but at least I was in the system. You could ask for a dating scan, or if you can't get one on the NHS then you could pay for one privately. They are very good for telling due dates but also making things real.

Also, start taking folic acid (or some kind of pregnacare supplement), don't drink, don't smoke and ask Haggis said - enjoy it!!

Thank you very much for your advise! I suppose a GP is a good shout as first point of call... Just didn't know if you were suppose to wait a certain time or not! Many thanks, he'll get a phone call Monday morning :)

  1. Take a suppliment. You need folic acid, but to be honest by the time you have been and bought that (in the vitamins at any chemist/supermarket) you might as well just get a pregnancy multi-vit which includes it, like Pregnacare or Sanatogen or even a supermarket own brand is plenty good enough.
  1. See the GP, who will arrange the midwife/scans etc.
  1. Look up online the foods to avoid in pregnancy. The only activity to avoid except the obvious ones is changing the cat litter bare handed. By the obvious I mean bungee jumping, motorcycling and anything that says "unsuitable for pregnant women", like some jacuzzis.

I would really recommend going to the library and getting a couple of pregnancy books out, and maybe buying a pregnancy magazine. This is my first and I was pretty clueless too, it's amazing how much you're supposed to know but don't actually get told until you see a midwife at 8 weeks! Good luck!
