apologies to emetophobes

Been feeling off all morning, hardly eaten. Just thrown up what I have eaten. Can't think of anything I've eaten recently that could be dodgy.

Shall I just see what happens or is it worth contacting GP/MW?

TIA

Could be your body's way of getting rid of eveything in preparation for labour! Good luck!

Leilababyno1 · 01/04/2011 14:50

I would give the community MW a quick call- won't hurt!

They do say that morning sickness can return during the last month of pregnancy- so it could be that.....

Give a quick call for some reassurance though....as could also be a early sign that things may be starting- good luck!

Thanks. I can't get hold of a CMW - just have hospital numbers

Waitand see what happens

reikizen · 01/04/2011 14:57

No, I would just take fluids and rest. If it is only one episode of vomiting I would not be worried at all. If you are still unable to keep anything (and I mean anything) down by this time tomorrow speak to your GP. If it is a bug you just have to get it out of your system, if it carries on for 3 or more days you may need fluids and anti-emetics.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/04/2011 14:59

Thanks

Don't panic. You either have a bug or food poisoning I'd wager. Morning sickness can come back at the end and you can have a 'clear out' before labour but if you've been feeling rubbish, I think it's more likely a virus or something you've eaten.

Take it easy, drink plenty and see what happens. You do need to look after yourself just that wee bit more than if you were sick and not pregnant and if it goes on please see somebody but your body's probably dealing with whatever's causing it.

Always got MS back in the last few weeks. I am lucky that I have never actually thrown up though.

Hope you feel better soon.

reikizen · 01/04/2011 15:04

Fried eggs made me vom in the late stages of pregnancy. And Chilli for some reason on one occasion. Couldn't eat it for years afterwards. Luckily chocolate never ever had that effect.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/04/2011 15:04

Thank you. Felt better straight afterwards but now feeling shaky. Not good timing! Didn't have anything like this with DS. dH on his way home.

Community Midwives should be based at your hospital. On the front of your green pregnancy notes, there should be an extension number listed, alternatively the Day Assesment Unit extension number will put you straight through to a midwife?

Personally I would give them a quick call, but of course it's up to you...

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/04/2011 17:45

And now I have the runs. What fun.

comewhinewithme · 01/04/2011 17:49

Sounds like things may be starting. I remember during my last pg I was about 39 weeks and I suddenly threw up for no reason, I posted about it on here Grin and I went into labour a couple of days later.
Just take it easy and sip water. Good luck!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/04/2011 17:57

Thanks. I hope so. Otherwise it's a very crap time to be ill

I always get the runs prelabour. Always...

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/04/2011 19:33

Really? There's nothing left in me now, I'm sure. No energy either! Thanks for reassurance from everyone who has replied.

It hope it is pre-labour, good thing your DH is on his way home either way to care for you.

Could be norovirus which is doing the rounds at the moment and generally lasts 12-48 hours see here for symptoms.

Make sure you keep hydrated and keep up your salts and sugars by adding rehydration powder like dioralyte to the water if vomiting and diarrhoea bad. If water won't stay down try sucking ice cubes/ice lollies to keep your fluids and energy up.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/04/2011 19:39

DH here and looking after DS while I languish in bed. I feel ill. Just had cup of black sweet tea. Thanks for advice re norovirus.

My bump has gone really hard as well, butfinally felt thebqby kick after a bit of an anxious gap, so a bit happier now.

Norovirus just done the rounds here. Vomiting first, then diarrhoea later the same day. Tis the season for it.

Whatever the diagnosis, the advice is the same. Rest, keep an eye on the baby and yourself and drink plenty.

PipPipPip · 01/04/2011 19:45

Hi BellaBear,

I got horribly sick when I was 39 weeks pregnant - vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps so bad I was on all fours.

I never worked out if it was a) food poisoning b) a stomach bug or c) just my body's way of 'rejecting' too-rich food. But it didn't lead to labour, and my baby was fine.

For about 12 hours I thew up everything including fluids. After 12 hours I held down some water/Dioralyte and then a few hours after that I held down some plain boiled rice.

NHS Direct & midwives said to focus on trying to stay hydrated and trying to hold down food. The baby went VERY quiet for a 48 hours which was a bit scary, but came through completely fine.

Just sharing my experience - yours may be different. But I'm just trying to reassure you, and am sending you LOADS of sympathy.

PipPipPip · 01/04/2011 19:47

PS. I just clicked on the link above and my symptoms match Norovirus almost completely. Hmmm! Wonder if that is what it was!? Anyway, good luck x x

Ormirian · 01/04/2011 19:49

I was violently sick during transition each time. Might it be your body doing something similar just a bit earlier?

Yes ring the MW,

BellaBearisWideAwake · 02/04/2011 09:29

Thank you all.

Better today, just feel weak. Managed some toast and black tea. Spoke to doctor who reckons norovirus and stay hydrated. Baby moving more today, phew. Just taking it easy.
