Hi everyone!

I've got an appointment with my GP later today to check this, but was wondering if there's anyone with this condition on here and how it started.. I already posted about really swollen right ankle a couple of weeks ago and got some responses then.. But now I feel generally really unwell and both my ankles were extremely swollen already when I woke up after a good 8 hours of sleep. Also my hands and fingers are swollen and I have a feeling my face is swollen as well (although colleagues at work don't really see this)...

Hi Marabou,
How far along are you? I put on weight nearer the end of my pregnancies, especially on my face. However in my first pregnancy I suffered with pre-eclampsia at the end which was indicated by swollen ankles and swelling hands. But many friends I know had swelling which was not pre-eclampsia. The only was to be certain is to have a urine check to check for protein? I think?

Good luck with the GP, let us know what he/she says

Hi there and many thanks for your reply! I'm 33+4 weeks today.. Yeah I've noticed that some of my weight gain now shows on my face (a very flattering look I must say Hmm).. But this just feels different, don't know how to explain it. Hm yeah I can't wait to get to BP and urine checked, just feel really uncomfortable right now:(..

I had PE first time round, Swollen Feet, ankles, hands and face, headaches and vomiting, high blood pressure and protein present in urine. Had this for 2 weeks before they induced Shock, by which point I was feeling really ill. Go yo GP and get checked.

If it happens to me again I will make sure they do something before I reach that point, DD was born under weight because my placenta wasn't functioning properly.

It may well not be PE in your case but I would get checked and make sure everything is ok. good luck

Gosh you really seemed to have had all the symptoms they list! Yeah I have an appointment this afternoon. Not enjoying being at the office at the moment Sad!

Hi, just to try and put your mind at rest a little. I have hideous swollen feet, protein in my urine and elevated BP and I still am not classified as having PE. I have pregnancy induced hypertension. I am on BP lowering tablets and all is fine with me and baby.
The baby is a very healthy weight, blood flow to placenta is good and baby's heart was monitored yesterday and the series was good.
I am being watched very closely to ensure it does not suddenly develop into PE but over the last 4 weeks have come to realise that getting stressed about it was just making things loads worse as I wasn't sleeping and then as a consequence BP would increase.
I know it's not easy but try to relax. You are going to the right place to find out the answers and baby will be just fine.

im also 33+4 and have been suffering with raised bllod pressure and protein in urine and swollen feet for the last few weeks. My midwife has been keeping a close check on me and nagging me to rest which i havent really done untill this last week. Have been back today and not surprisingly (after i took advice and have rested alot more) my Bp was back to normal and pee was borderline but not a concern!!!!!!! I have the advantage that i have given up work though.
When are you finishing work? could you ask GP to sign you off sick??????
Stressing does make it worse and you need to do whats best right now and if you can lower the stress and rest more it really can help.

I felt poorly, almost fluey with slight swelling on the ankles. Doc thought I was being neurotic when I got to hospital, then realised that my BP was sky high. I was 32+6 and had my babies at 33+2. In your case, I'd be ringing up the labour ward and speaking to them. They'll ask you to come in to be checked over there.

Marabou · 31/03/2011 14:31

Hey there and thanks for replying. Oh I didn't even know there was this kind of a condition, as I had thought high BP, swelling, protein in the urine etc. would basically always be PE.. Thanks for reassurance, I'm hoping in my case it's nothing serious and I can finally put my mind at ease! Good luck with the pregnancy and good to hear baby is doing well! X

Uups, sorry I hadn't refreshed my page and only now saw your replies.. I'm also noticing that stress makes the swelling worse: I've been doing a 50-hour working week for a while now and it's starting to dawn on me that it's actually not the best position to be in.. Luckily I'm due to start my maternity leave in two weeks and not at the end of April like originally planned!

TheVisitor, do you think I should rather go to the labour ward than my GP..? I think I'll go to the GP first though now that I already have an appointment..

Well just came from the doctor's and no protein in urine at least. My BP was a bit high though so she said they have to keep an eye on that and sent me to have some blood tests done tomorrow morning.. Hopefully it will be ok!

Just make sure that you get as much rest as you can, with your feet firmly up. If you can cut down from 50 hours over the next couple of weeks, that would help you massively. As your BP's only a bit high, you should be okay if you rest enough.

I am a bit paranoid with this, I think, but that's cos I was pre-eclamptic with a BP of 180/120.

Marabou · 31/03/2011 18:40

Yep I'm parked in front of the telly now with feet up and waiting for DH to come home to give me a foot massage Grin.

I'm afraid cutting down my hours will not really be possible unless I get a doctor's note, which I will definitely ask for if the BP is still slightly high next Tuesday when I'm due to have it checked next time.

Wau that's a really high number, 180/120?! I just checked my notes and saw that my BP at booking appointment was 120/60 and it has gone up steadily and today it was 140/80. I saw on another thread here that the lower number is what they generally track and that if that goes up by 20 or more, they'll show some concern, which I suppose happened to me too..

Ah, although yours is raised, it's still in the normal zone. Just take it easy and get that doctor's note. :) Mine was ridiculously high, and it took time after the triplets were born to get it down again. I was on medication for 3 months afterwards. All fine now, 12 years later. Grin
