I'm 30 weeks pregnant with my first baby, recently I've noticed the muscles in my bum and back of my thighs aching - almost like I've overdone a bums and tums workout or something! Confused

Anyone else get this and does it go away? Its not really painful but it is uncomfortable.

It could be just down to the weight, your body is not used to it and it may just be that.I had terrible pains in my lower back and thighs with my second child, very uncomfortable!

But nothing wrong in mentioning it to a midwife at your next appointment :)

I know this will sound odd - but maybe its a form of braxton hicks for you. All (3) of my labours had me in agony round my bum Hmm, upper thighs and very lower back, as well as where you'd expect...tummy, mid-back ect.

I remember the first time wondering why the hell my bum was in labour as much, if not more, than my tum....

Don't worry about it tho', if this IS the case then it's just your body preparing itself as it should xxx

Thanks for your replies - I did wonder if it had something to do with the extra weight and the way it's and possibly the change to flats/trainers all of the time as I'm used to wearing at least a small heel most days. I have started getting (what I assumed to be) Braxton Hicks a week or so ago, so although it's weird it may be related I guess!

Ah well, midwife in a couple of weeks so I will mention it but looks like its just another delight of pregnancy! I won't complain though, the majority of it is lovely :o

I have been getting this in the last week (26 weeks today), it's getting so that at the end of the day I have to lower myself into a chair like an old man. It's also coincided with people standing up for me on the tube so I guess it's just because I'm bigger!

There was another thread about this a few days ago, can't find it now. I've had aching backs of thighs and bum for weeks now (I'm 34 weeks), it's muscle tension from holding my body differently to support the weight. Getting DH to massage legs and bum helps a bit although he's not very cooperative. I'm seeing a massage therapist who does a lot of myofascial work and it really helps, it's quite painful but it does release the muscles, well for a week or so anyway.

I got that at around 26 weeks and now have SPD. I don't know though if it was the start of that or something different. My SPD mostly affects me in the thighs rather than feeling it in the pelvis itself, and standing up, sitting down and bending down are all difficult. Definitely worth mentioning to your midwife.
