Hi

I am nearly 36 weeks, and have recently developed a couple of hemorrhoids...they don't go back in after a bowel movement and have been a little painful for the past few days....Blush

What is the best treatment cream to buy from the pharmacists?

I am reluctant to book an appointment at my very busy doctors, as it may take me a while to get a free appointment, only to be told yes you have piles!

Please advise? Thanks!

leilababyno1 i am worried about pushing in labour while i have piles too. to be honest mine arent too bad, i have one which is mostly there all the time, but smaller ones flare up now and again and i am worried about what will happen to my back passage if i push.

is it possible that anything really awful happens, like you have to have surgery or something after labour?

Leilababyno1 · 30/03/2011 19:36

Doc called me and has prescribed me some hemorrhoid cream and stool softener to help with the constipation....hopefully that will do the trick. Hurrah!

BakingBunty- I have some hydrocortisone cream left over from when I was prescribed it for mild exema pre pregnancy- hummmm...might be worth a shot if the other cream doesn't do the job...

I had them just before I had DS. I forgot all about them during the pushing stage!!

Leilababyno1 · 30/03/2011 19:44

lizandlulu- I am not sure to be honest, but if you are really worried about it maybe mention it to your MW on your next antenatal appointment....

I think it's highly unlikely you would have to have any kind of surgery though, I think lots of ladies have piles pre labour OR aquire them during and as far as I know- once you have given birth they go away of their own accord- maybe with the help of some cream/pessaries etc...

In the meantime, try and clear them up and remember to increase your fibre, eat lots of prunes & apricots- plently of water..Smile

i dont really have any other problems, in that area other than piles, i eat lots of fibre and prunes (just lately cause they was on offer at hte supermarket!) and my movements are not hard or anything so i dont really know why i have them in the first place. (i have had one since my teens)

the one i have had a long time didnt get any worse in my first labour, but will definatly mention it to my midwife when i see her in another 3 weeksSmile

i just have visions of pushing and having my bowel come out or something like that

nitnatnaboo · 31/03/2011 11:18

I have one external painful one (24 wks pg) and used Germoloids but it had no effect. GP prescribed different cream called Sheriproct. Seems much better. She seemed to think this pile had been lurking inside since last pg (2005!) and had clotted, and that's why it was rather stubborn and wouldnt go back inside (didn't stop her trying though - ouch). Shock

Leilababyno1 · 31/03/2011 13:31

Woke up this morning (sorry if TMI..) and my one external pile had swollen even more during the night. Have tried pushing it back in but to no avail...It's now so painful that I can't even sit down...Shock!

Doc has prescribed me Anusol, used it twice today already and still nothing. Am still in the same amount of discomfort.

Any advise anyone...Sad??

oh no advice but hope it gets better soon x

msbossy · 31/03/2011 13:54

It will get better. Persevere with the cream or try the suppositories as they melt down over a longer time. To prevent aggravation put your feet up on a stool when doing a poo, and use moist toilet tissue.

TMI alert.... As for labour, well, my constipation up until that point meant that I pooed with every push and my piles got worse. However, no surgery needed and they were much reduced within a few weeks and barely caused me any problems until I got preg again. Due to be induced tomorrow so in lactulose today to avoid repeat embarrassment - am expecting to come home with whopper piles but for them to ease off. You can request surgery if they persist though.

Leilababyno1 · 31/03/2011 21:42

Thank-you.

Managed to get a doctor's appointment this evening as was in a lot of discomfort. She said that it's a 'Thrombosed hemorrhoid', hence why i'm in so much pain. Apparently, I am to persevere with the cream and it will hopefully start to skrink back down- you can have them drained at A & E but don't really fancy that at the moment....Will just wait and see!

i have heard from several people who have had their piles treated, i dont know the technical term but it involved tring them off or something like that, and it hasnt worked for them and it was very painful.

msbossy i think alot of women poo in labour and dont even know about it. they must be used to it. were you aware of it?

Just wanted to hop on this thread rather than start another.... Does a doctor actually need to look at them before prescribing? Saw my doc today for another reason and asked for something to help but she wanted to take a look first... I swiftly declined, a) because I didn't want her to look 'there' but also b) because I had a very boisterous 5 year old DS in tow...
He doesn't need that trauma, neither do I!!

Leilababyno1 · 07/04/2011 00:26

My doctor wanted to have a look, as she wanted to make sure they wern't infected. I think this is the main reason, they often want a peek...Blush

It's not very nice though, I know! Still, at the time I was in A LOT of pain, and to be honest didn't really care if she wanted to see, as just wanted it sorted....

She discovered I had a 'thrombosed hemmorhoid' which would normally be drained at the hospital, but as I'm pregnant this was unadvisable due to risk of infection- SO.....was still only prescribed the normal cream!

Good-luck with yours.....If I were you I would just pop down to Boots and buy some 'Anusol' cream- you can buy it over the counter and is safe to use during pregnancy- ordinarily, this is all your doc will probably prescribe anyhow..

Thanks for reply. Doc said to get DH to buy it as chemist would say no to a pregnant lady without prescription from doc... Hmm

I think i'm lucky in that they aren't very bad at all, only showed up 2 days ago and already feeling a bit better. Will try to 'keep loose', do my pelvic floor exercises and not sleep on my back (I gather this is a no no for piles and I have been back sleeping more recently because of SPD..).

I think this is caused from baby moving down because I've not been constipated at all, more the opposite tbh..

I have a midwife appt tmoro so will mention it then and get DH to buy some over the counter for me if needed...

Good luck with getting yours sorted. Oh the joy of pregnancy!! :)

giggles at the thought of DH having to buy it for me tho..
