Cats and Toxo

Hello, I am just 4 weeks PG (and terrified with the idea) and our current "babies" are 3 adorable cats. Two of them do get outside for walks, so they are not all just indoor cats. I have tested them for toxo and they are all fine. The litter box is changed twice a day by my husband, so no worries there.
I've read that chances are zero if your cats are indoors. But it's not possible to restrain them and I do worry just a bit. Should I be more cautious or continue to enjoy my cats like I used to? Even the thought of not sleeping with them or not paying as much attention as I used to makes me feel guilty!
Any thoughts / experiences?
Thanks!

I have 2 cats with a litter tray, although they go out as well. DH took over all litter dealings. Other than that I just carried on as usual, making sure to wash hands/antibac gel after playing with them.

I would start getting them used to not being in your bedroom though, you can't keep them there when you have a newborn in a crib/sleeping with you.

We put a gate at the bottom of the stairs (my cats are too thick to work out how to jump over) while I was pregnant and they soon forgot about upstairs. Now they have beds in the utility room (where the back door with the catflap is) and its fine. Everybody, cat and human, knows where they stand.

Cats are resilient buggers really. They will still love you just as much when you open the fridge door. Grin

I've got 2 cats that go outside, and apart from DH taking over the litter tray cleaning, nothing has changed. I don't even wash my hands more frequently when handling them.

They still sleep in the bed with us (I'm 34 weeks), I reckon once baby has arrived, they will remove themselves from our bedroom, they are not keen on little children/noise/anything different from their routine. They're welcome to stay, if they want, but knowing them, I can't see them doing that, especially at the beginning. We'll obviously keep an eye on them getting in the pram/moses basket/cot.

Be aware that you can get toxoplasmosis from unwashed vegetables or doing gardening, too!

But I'm also worrying about the effect it will have on them, thinking about getting some Feliway for when baby arrives!

I'm 36 weeks and have got through the pregnancy fine (touch wood) with one old kitty who uses a litter tray. Husband does the clearing out and keeps the area clean. She sleeps on our bed too.

As JBrd says, take care when gardening too - always wear gloves and wash your hands afterwards. Motherly words over!
