Lack of sleep

I'm 14 weeks pregnant on Saturday and haven't slept the whole way through the night since January. I feel like a zombie!

I just need the loo once a night, sometimes twice and it's really starting to annoy me, especially as I'm so thirsty all the time.

Do any of you guys suffer from this too and how do you stop it?! Confused

I do suffer from exactly the same thing, though I am only 10 weeks along. Last night was particularly bad.

I've found that a soak in a warm bath before bed and making sure I sleep with the window open a little for some fresh air sometimes helps.

Not found a really good cure so will be watching this thread very closely!!

P.S. Trying to drink lots during the day and not so much at night helps with the needing the loo in the night thing!

KatieWatie · 30/03/2011 10:27

Ditto, for me it's the loo thing but also I suffer from terrible problems with my nose so I wake at 2-4am and spend about an hour having to clear it and stuff tissue up it. I'm exhausted ALL the time.

I don't think it helps with how early I go to bed (due to being knackered). I've slept through 3 nights since January and that was the nights we had guests and I made the effort to stay up late!

So I suggest trying to stay up as late as you can, and hopefully you'll get less tired as your pregnancy goes on anyway (I think it's meant to 'turn' at about 14wks and you suddenly become full of energy Hmm so I can't wait for that!)

BillBrysonsRucksack · 30/03/2011 10:32

I've been getting up 2-3 times to go to the loo in the night since about week 1! I'm 31 weeks now and I have to say it hasn't really got much better, I've just got better at dealing with it.

I find if I avoid drinks, especially caffeinated (sp?) ones as they can irritate the bladder, after 6pm that I 'only' need to get up twice.

Sorry to be a bit the voice of doom but rest assured your bladder will get better when the baby is finally born!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 30/03/2011 10:35

Yes it probably will Bill, but then the baby will be keeping you awake instead Grin

I'm 21 weeks. I've had one complete night of sleep since I got the bfp Grin

I've found like others on here that a bath does help a bit as does opening the window - on a bad night I am awake every half an hour or thereabouts.

If it's any comfort I haven't gone completely mental with sleep deprivation yet although my ability to actually do useful things like work is suffering somewhat.

Ps. I'm sorry to say that the full of energy 2nd trimester is an absolute myth, at least, for me it is :)

LDNlady · 30/03/2011 16:35

I hate to say it but I am 30 weeks and I haven't had a full night's sleep since I got my BFP in October. I keep hoping that "tonight will be the night" but it never bloody is!!! :(

humph123 · 30/03/2011 16:42

me too, i'm 30 weeks and haven't had a full night's sleep since i got the bfp. i've given up hope for a heavy night's sleep. i seem to wake up everytime i change position. i guess this is it now until the baby is about 1!!

thefurryone · 30/03/2011 16:47

Now, 36+5 I have had one full nights sleep since mid-August, it was a great night, I think about it often.

I did try cutting out drinks pre-bed at one point but just found that I woke up with a headache. If you're having problems getting back to sleep I find that this seems to happen less when I go to bed later. I also sometimes listen to podcasts that I've listened before which stop my mind from wandering on to topics that keep me awake and I would generally fall asleep quite soon after they start.

I have found though that as pregnancy goes on even though I'm still not sleeping through the night, although I'm still tired, I haven't ever been quite as exhausted as I was at the beginning, so even if you never manage a full night things will hopefully get easier.

Hope you find something that works for you.

swampmonster · 30/03/2011 19:39

pillow in between legs in third trimester just helping sleep position, may sound silly but if you happen to wake for any other reason then go to the toilet then this will empty bladder whilst you are already in a light sleep.

Thats all I am afraid!-36 + 2 with dc4

misty0 · 30/03/2011 19:42

i'm 12 weeks and I slept right through the night b4 last

But last night was crap again ....

Boobs, bladder, tummy, wind, overheating, thirst, mind racing .... oh the list goes on.

My eldest daughter is disturbing my sleep some nights - not because she needs feeding or changing - but because she's 18 and stays out till midnight and i cant relax untill i hear her key in the door Hmm !!! (and shes got 2 younger sisters....)

There's no hope for me is there Grin

Figaro82 · 30/03/2011 20:08

This is my biggest problem at the moment. I am 8 weeks today and I just cant fall asleep! Im lying awake till 2 - 3 in the morning and I have to be up at 5.30am for work!! Im not worrying about anything, I just cant fall asleep even though I am shatterred!!!

Misty, my mum had another baby when I was 19 (I am now 29) and I was terrible for doing the same! I appreciate now how unfair I was!!!
