I'm 23 weeks with an anterior, low placenta and only feeling movement sporadically. Some days I get a couple of strong thumps that actually make me feel faint, other days I just get flutters like gas (and quite often plenty of gas too TBH!). Anyone else experiencing anything similar? Just a bit paranoid in case anything's gone wrong so hand-holding appreciated!

showofhands thats what i thought, can placentas actually move though? or do they stay in the smae position throughout the whole pregnancy?

is anterior high the same thing as anterior low?
I have anterior high but my consultant literally said it (not to me) as a matter of fact thing. i feel baby every day, sometimes more than others, but sometimes its very muffled like i have a pillow between baby and tummy. oh and LOTS of kicks in the bladder, (baby is breech) not even sure that makes a difference at 24 weeks.

Sorry to hijack but are you expecting again too ShowofHands?? If so congratulations!!! I'm due November 20 by my calculations, if you fancy some panicking together! Terrified but determined but terrified about the birth. Mainly terrified.

Placentas do move when you're pregnant. They move up generally but the uterus is actually growing up and shifting them out of the way of the cervix. Some attach low, some high. It's only when they're so low they're in the way of the exit that it's a problem and even low ones can move up quite a long way. They don't drop off and hide the way out for kicks.

Poppet, shh, but yes. I'm being a bit quiet about it as I'm somewhere beyond terrified and therefore burying my head in the sand. The anterior placenta confirmation has brought it all back tbh. I'm convinced I'm on the slippery slope. I'd be more than happy to panic alongside you. PM me and we can whinge together.

In my case the baby is transverse as in lying across the body so separate issue to the low placenta or the anterior placenta.

Sarahmia - anterior high is different to anterior low. With anterior low you could possibly have the added complication of placenta previa (although this is rare and the placenta is likely to move up as ShowofHands says). Also if you've had a previous c-section and you have anterior low then you may have some issues with the placenta covering your old scar.

But other than the back to back issue which I hadn't heard of before now I don't think there are other issues with a high anterior placenta.
