Sore back and bum

Hi all,

Am sure this is all part and parcel of the 'process' but just thought i would check :)

I am 35 weeks pg (tomorrow) and for this last week or so i have had a sore lower back and sore bum cheeks Blush. Its all kind of achey, like i have been doing too much exercise (definitely not!) and is making me just want to sit down all the time. Next week me and DH have to drive about 4 - 5 hours, stay overnight and then doing the same back, to do a pick up of house stuff for SIL before she moves back here and i would just like to make sure if there is anything i can do in the intervening time to ease the pain a bit.

DH also wants me to ask if this drive is good idea - he will be driving, not me - i plan to have a sleep :) I have told him that, should anything happen, i would much rather be somewhere else with him, than stuck here, and worrying about him getting back.

Any wise words much appreciated :)

Sounds to me like a touch of the pesky spd or pgp.

I would monitor how you feel. If you must go with him, ensure you have a break every 90 mins or so in order to avoid becoming seized up. And DO NOT under any circumstances help with any house stuff. I mean that. Don't do it.

Check out the Pelvic Partnership website. It gives good advice on what to do/not do. Also, if it rings bells and you suspect it may be spd then contact your MW. You can get physio sessions and they'll be able to advise on how to position yourself in labour/delivery to ensure you don't do any damage.

If it is spd, don't panic. In the huge majority of cases it goes away spontaneously on delivery (or shortly afterwards) and if you've had no trouble so far then I would guess that it would do that for you.

Whatever you do though, if it is that don't think that because you've got this far, only a few more weeks won't make any difference. They can and the advice about delivery is invaluable, I promise. It can make the difference between getting better straight away and not.

Hope that helps.

I have this as well but I am only 14 weeks. Could it be just things moving around etc, I would have assumed it too early for SPD?

I've been feeling like I've run a marathon for at least two months now, I'm 34 weeks pg. It's muscular tension caused by the body adapting to walking/sitting/standing differently now you've got an unusual weight distribution (not saying you in particular have a weird distribution! just that pregnancy puts all the weight at the front which puts a strain on the body). I've been seeing a bodyworker/myofacial massage person which really helps, I imagine any type of proper masseuse (e.g. not a wishy washy massage but properly trained) would do the trick. Expensive though! Some days I feel like I'm walking on tiptoes because my bum cheeks are so tense Blush. Admittedly it's a little embarassing to turn up to a masseuse and ask for a thigh/bum/back massage but hey ho.

If you can manage to see someone before your drive that will probably help, also stop frequently to walk around and stretch. I don't envy you driving that far at 35 weeks though, you probably will feel quite stiff afterwards whatever you do.

i agree with button it does sound like spd Get a physio referal and read up on what to avoid and exercises that can help. The difference in mine since doing this is amazing. wwwpelvicpartnership.org.uk is an amazing site

Thanks all - i am just about to have a good look at the website now :)

buttonmoon i am not going to be doing any helping, just for company. And also cos i would prefer to be with my DH than not

Zimbah that is what it feels like to me too (and i probably do have weird weight distribution Grin)

It doesn't seem to bother me much when sitting/sleeping, and is not mega painful, just makes me a bit slow when walking - i pity the people behind me in the street when shopping Blush
