I am pregnant with my third and planing a home birth my first Labour was dreadfull very long very painfull and ended in a blood transfusion! but my second was wonderfull! relaxed not too painfull and very quick but my midwife said to me at booking in that I should expect an easy time this go as third time Labours are notoriously unpredictable and that it could be just like my first?? God i hope not! anyone have a quick easy third go?

I had a horrible stop start time with my third, but when it finally kicked in properly, all over in two hours, and two pushes!
I was dreading the after pains as they were dire with number two, and everyone said they would be worse, but they definately weren't as bad!!
I had that pain relief supository thing quite soon after the birth, just in case I needed it really (strange as I had no pain relief during the birth itself!) next couple of days took a few paras, but nowhere near as painful as the second baby. You will be fine don't worry. I actually look back on my third birth as the best one. Felt more in control, and so proud.

maddyer · 29/03/2011 16:51

So is it true then that you feel different in your pregnancy dependant on the sex you are carring? i only have boys so nothing to compare? I do feel different this time but then I felt diferent with ds2 mabey you feel different every time regardless of sex?

I wish I'd been warned of that while I was pg with DD. 1st 2 labours were very quick and easy - ds1 was 8hrs from 1st twinge, ds2 was 1.5 hrs from 1st twinge, no pain relief with either. I had a HB planned but as she decided to come on a very busy night I had to go to the mlu at hospital. Thank god I did. It was a stop start labour, 1st contraction at 5am, she wasn't born until nearly midnight but I had a few spells of a couple of hours with no contractions. It was bloody painful, g&a had no effect whatsoever. On mentioning how hard it was compared to the others everyone with 3 agreed that their 3rd was the hardest by far.

Saying all that I knid of expected it to be harder as I'd had 2 very easy pregnancies with the boys with hardly a bump at all whereas with DD I suffered continuously from 10wks and had a mammoth bump (I was almost as round as I am tall!).

But she has made up for all that in the last 15weeks by being the easiest baby I could imagine.

To answer your other questions, for me, yes sex makes a huge difference to the pregnancy and yes, they do get bigger each time. ds1 - 6lb10oz, ds2 - 8lb, dd - 8lb 5oz. My mums 3 all got a lb bigger each time.

girlfromdownsouth · 29/03/2011 17:11

maddyer I didn't feel any different with my other 2 pg's and I had a girl and then a boy. I thought I carried the same with both of them (lower down - looks like I've swallowed a football). I am carrying exactly the same way with DC3 so who knows!

Also due in July - 14th. Waves at buttonmoon

This DC3 thing makes me mad. One of my midwives said that 3rd labours are unpredictable and that's why any midwives who have children stop at 2!!! Very unhelpful for me as I was sitting there 20wks pg with DC3. I agree with the others inasmuch as all births are unpredictable.

What is going to happen will happen, so try not to worry. Smile

buttonmoon78 · 29/03/2011 17:13

Not in my experience. I was convinced this was a girl as first 2 pgs were reasonably similar (girls) last one was v different (boy) and this felt more like 1 and 2. But it's a boy!

And, so far mine have got smaller too, bucking that trend. 8lb15, 7lb11 and 7lb. Scan at 21 wks predicted 9lb+ though so we'll see...

buttonmoon78 · 29/03/2011 17:14

Hi girlfromdownsouth! That's bollocks too! The mw who delivered ds had 6, count 'em, 6 kids.

And my consultant had 4.

girlfromdownsouth · 29/03/2011 17:17

Oh button you have such a cute turn of phrase!

BTW, DC1 (girl) was 6lb 1oz and DC2 (boy) was 6lb 10oz. Here's hoping this one will be a littlie too.

buttonmoon78 · 29/03/2011 17:22

I know. I'm just cute. That's about it! Wink

thefirstMrsDeVere · 29/03/2011 19:53

After pains Shock. Didnt have them with DD. Horrible with DS1, none with DS2 (didnt actually give birth to him so that would have been weird), DS3 they were terrible , they made me cry. I was dreading them after DS4 but they turned out to be managable so that was a nice suprise Smile

neolara · 29/03/2011 20:00

Mine was quick. 30 mins from first twinge. Get your DH trained up in how to deliver a baby, just in case!

thisisyesterday · 29/03/2011 20:04

mine was 48 minutes after I woke having a big contraction! home birth def the way to go Wink

Thornykate · 29/03/2011 20:29

3rd birth was best so far & v similar to 2nd. After pains have got worse every time, some were like medium strength contractions last time so am not looking forward to #4.

My babies got smaller each time, about 9,8 & 7 lb respectively.

Did your mw have a crystal ball in her hand when she told you that about 3rd births? My mum told me the same & was wrong too. Can't understand why people like making mums to be more nervous than they already are!

jellyhead188 · 30/03/2011 07:11

I'm glad you asked this - my 1st was horrendous, 2nd lovely and the mw said 3rd could be really quick or could go the other way - have been told to phone the birth centre as soon as I get any signs as it could be half the time of the second/first one (1st 3 hours but induced, 2nd 6 hours start to finish!) so I'm in a quandry - mind you this baby is lying back to back so am expecting pain I'm in now just to become more severe and regular!!!

maddyer · 30/03/2011 08:22

Bless you jellyhead I had a back to back labour with my first ouch! but he was so gorgeous and so good I coludn't complain once he got here! thornykate great to hear that it can indead be better! and smaller babies that is very reasuring! were you over due withany of yours at all? I'm trying to see if there is any pattern to going overdue? as if that gets longer I'm screwed!

neolara do you know where I can get information on delievering babies for my hubby? I would have to be gentle about it though as he is very squeemish and is already panicing about the prospects of a hb without the added worry that he may need to deliver our baby!

neolara · 31/03/2011 14:33

I just asked my midwife to talk us through it. Which turned out to be lucky as my dh had to deliver no 3 by himself in the kitchen. Midwife and ambulance turned up a few mins later.

Thornykate · 31/03/2011 18:04

neolara that sounds scary! Good tale to tell the LO in years to come though.

maddyer I wasn't sure of dates for DS1 according to hosp dates he was 2 wk overdue but looked term when he arrived, he was just very long bless him.

DS2 was 2 days over & DS3 was 1 wk early. Am hoping #4 won't go overdue as I am impatient at the best of times!

pearlgirl · 31/03/2011 18:09

No3 was the only one that came without induction - 2 hours from first twinge to baby - g&a for a few stitches at the end - i wish the others had been like it.
