6 weeks pregnant and bleeding

Hi i hope someone can help.. im so worried :( im pregnant with my first im about 6 weeks.. yesterday i started getting very mild cramps and quite a bit of bleeding which today the little bleeding is still there when i go to the toilet but it has eased off quite a bit.. i went to a&e they were so unhelpful! i sat there on my own for ages for them to tell me theres nothing they can do until thursday.. i have a scan on thursday to see if im still pregnant.. :( im so worried.. is this normal? x

Hiya, I totally understand, the same happened to me. I had light bleeding at 8 weeks that went on for about a week & a half, of course I got worried too and went to A and E. They did a scan and it showed everything was ok. I got bleeding again with mild cramps at about 15-16 weeks, and worried but everything seems to be going well.

I think some bleeding in pregnancy can be normal, but I know it is very scary! I'm sure everything will be fine at the scan xx

Thank you so much for your reply.. my mind is going into overdrive with worry.. its very re-assuring hearing someone else has been through the same thing.
I really hope everything will be ok.. tried for a baby for so long xx

Hi, i bled at 6 and 8 weeks with both my pregnancies and my girls are now 5 and 7. Try not to worry, everything may be fine and i know it sounds harsh but 'what will be will be, theres not much you can do other than take it easy and wait' , my bleeds were due to erossion and nothing to do with the baby. Fingers crossed for you and take it easy.

I worried myself sick too, I think as long as there is no severe cramps or pain then everything should be fine. Best of luck to you x

thank you both so much.. i feel like i have lost my pregnancy symptoms :( but dont know if its just because im worrying so much .. thursday seems so long away for my scan....
Marne i totally agree with 'what will be will be' i feel everything happens for a reason and with something like this its out of anyones control :( i will keep you updated as to what happens in the next few days.. fingers crossed everything will work out ok xx

Lots of luck with your scan. I also started bleeding at 8 weeks and then a dark brown discharge for a week which is gradually fading. Fortunately everything looked fine at the early scan they gave me. I never did get an explanation for the bleeding though. It is a very worrying time and I completely understand how you feel. Apparently bleeding during pregnancy is not that uncommon. I really hope the scan goes well for you xx

Its so nice to hear so many peoples stories on here which make you think you still have a chance.. this morning i was a mess before i came on here but now feel much better and much more positive so thank you so much! I still havnt stopped bleeding but it is just when i wipe now its not much at all.. and no clots or anything like that so fingers crossed!! thank you xxx

Hi there, Good luck on Thurs but try not to worry (impossible I know untill you are reassured). I had bleeding and pain at 7 weeks and went into complete melt down, phoned emergency doctors who said go to A&E, unlike yours ours were v good and comforting but did say they couldn't say what was happening without a scan which they couldn't perform that night. We went to the Early pregnancy clinic the next day and had a scan and found a heartbeat and we both were so relieved. The bleeding went on and off (and sometimes worse than others) for about 2 and half weeks and also included brownish discharge. Because we had 3 failed ICSI/IVF and this baby is the result of egg donation I still couldn't relax and when the bleeding went on the next week we went back to the doctors who sent us in for another scan. Again all fine. The midwife did say it could be cervical ectropian, could be implantation bleeding or just sometimes some women just bleed and some quite heavily - it doesn't necessarily result in miscarriage. We never actually foud out what it was and even when we saw the obstreotrician at 12 weeks they still didn't know but were v unconcerned. If its just when you wipe that is a good sign, some books I read is if you are soaking a pad an hour and with severe cramps at the front you need to get advice. In the early stages you can feel like you aren't taken seriously but you have to remember they see hundreds and thousands of us every day. Think positive thoughts and again best wishes for Thurs. x

Hi, I'm going out of my mind with worry. I have to wait till next tuesday the 4th for a scan as I started bleeding, no cramps last thursday. I had a MC in October so I know what it's like. The waiting for the scan is the worst bit. It's been really different this time but I still can't work out what's going on. My fingers are crossed for you Roxanne.

I had a huge bleed on friday (8+5), bright red blood with clots. Honestly thought that was that and I'd MC. The EPU were good and examined me and said the cervix was closed which was a good sign, and sent me away with a scan booked for today. That showed a bean with a heartbeat and everything seems fine.

They have no idea why it happened, apparantly it just does for some women. Wishing you lots of luck and sending hugs xx

Sorry to hear you're going through this roxanne and beefcake, it's horribly stressful. I'm now 22 weeks pg but had bleeding on and off from 7 weeks to 13 weeks and was terrified it was another mc (I had one last July). I had regular scans at the EPU and the bleeding seemed to be being caused by a clot behind the placenta. I haven't had any bleeding since and everything was fine at my 20 week scan, fingers crossed it's a good outcome for you both.

Thanks for all the replies.. my bleeding has almost stopped just a tiny bit of spotting.. but i feel now like i have lost all my pregnancy symptoms.. so im worrying again.. so glad its thursday 2moro for my scan thanks for all the support!
Icoulddoitbetter your story has gave me so much hope! i havent had any heavy or painful bleeding so im really hoping there is still a chance! its just the no symptoms thats now worrying me x
beefcake sounds like were both in the same boat.. i too lost a baby 2 years ago but this feels totally different with no pain or heavy bleeding! please let me know what happens with your scan!
Im going out of my mind today knowing this scan is 2moro.. my new worry is that the baby may not be alive.. but is still inside me.. worry worry worry xxx

Hello there - I bled the night before last, and landed up in the early pregnancy unit yesterday. Terrified and very upset - especially as little sis is due to have her baby NOW basically, and I couldn't bear the thought of saying I'd miscarried just as she had hers, and she'd be so upset, and I'd be upset ....well, you can imagine.

Anyhow, it was fine. Like you reallygrumpy I had a clot behind the placenta, but a fine looking fetus with a heartbeat measuring 7 w as I thought it would. The ultrasound woman told me once you've had bleeding, but have seen a fetus with a heartbeat, your mc risk is a little elevated compared to people with no bleeding, but not very much (like a percentage point or two higher) - maybe overall still a 95 up to 97% chance of live birth.

All the best for tomorrow Roxanne - your post makes me realise that I am bloody lucky to be near an EPU where you can just waltz on the bleeding day - I couldn't sympathise more and I really, really feel for you. However as my GP said, a hell of a lot of women bleed, and go on to have a healthy baby - I really hope you are one of them

I had the same at 5 weeks. The one thing I would add to all that's been said above is DON'T WORRY if they can't give you anything further tomorrow. We had the scan at 6 weeks but they said they couldn't be sure so booked me to come back 10 days later. That scan showed yoke sac, heartbeat, the works. Those 10 days were the longest of. my. LIFE. though!

Thanks everyone!!.. 2 hours to go.. probably the longest 2 hours of my life so far.. still having no pregnancy symptoms.. trying to stay positive but expecting the worst :( will update you when i get back xx

Roxanne I've had my fingers crossed for you. My bleeding which has been dark brown, no clots has been a brown discharge since monday. Unlike my mc in October which was full on red, clots and heavy duty. Feel nauseous and still have narcolepsy but my boobs are no longer on fire. I braved a pg test and it came up a faint positive so even more confused. Tuesday seems like an eon away. I have a friend that bled every 4 weeks full on and she was fine but I just can't work out the boob thing!? Anyone had this specific loss of symptom?

Hi ladies.. unfortunatly it was bad news for me :( it was very early days though suppose its just one of them things.. just got to look to the future i suppose.. i dont feel as upset as i thought i would be.. i dont know if im still in shock or whether i just prepared myself well for the worst.. i just want to get back to work and try and get on with things.. this is my second miscarriage so as they say 3rd time lucky!! thank you so much all of you for your support will defo be sticking around xxxx

Hi Roxanne sorry to hear about your loss. I posted a post that you wrote onto 5 weeks and bleeding and I did lose the baby this week as well. Just like you I was not as upset as I thought I would but it is still in your mind and I too did not have any heavy bleeding or pains or cramps etc. So I am starting to think bleeding is not a really good sign in pregnancy. I have seen my doctor today and he said that when this happens it is normally that there was something wrong with the baby or a malformation etc so for me in a way it is a relief as I would rather have a healthy baby than one with problems. So I think staying positive is the best thing to do and I was told I can start trying straight away. Keep posting who knows may be next time we will be both pregnant again and things will work fine.
