So, am in very early stages of pregnancy with DC2 and can't believe how much I have forgotten in the two years since DC1. I know I limited my caffeine intake, and am starting to work out what's okay to have now. Does anyone know the recommendations? And how they translate into actual cups of tea Smile

why not trying caffeine free tea, i am pregnant too and thats what i take in my first baby and in this pregnancy, you just have to use to it, it better and its very healthy.

I have no idea. I switched to decaf tea and fruit teas when pg with DD and have never gone back. When out and about, I just drink what's on offer, assuming that it is only occasional so prob ok.

no more than 200mg a day according to my nhs book:

caffeine contents

1 mug instant coffee: 100mg
1 mug filter coffee: 140mg
1 mug tea 75mg
1 can cola 40mg
energy drink can: upto 80mg
1 x 50g plain choc: upto 50mg
1 x 50g milk choc: upto 25mg

Thanks lolajane, that's really helpful. Firstsupermum, good advice I know, and I did have caffeine free tea in my first pregnancy, but it was just never as good as the real stuff, so as long as I know I can start my day with a cuppa or even two and stay in safe guidelines, I will go caffeine free the rest of the time..... and save the rest of my allowance for chocolate Grin

lol i lovbe my nhs pregnancy book. great for information i don't need myself.

coastgirl · 27/03/2011 17:38

I went off coffee for a lot of my first trimester. Now I can drink it again I have at most two half-mugs of filter coffee a day. I don't care for tea and if I'm going to drink instant, I might as well have decaff seeing as it's all not very nice.

firstsupermum · 27/03/2011 17:46

oh, yes thats great idea, if you have your NHS book, this will help alot,

iknowanoldlady · 27/03/2011 18:22

Great article, thanks, I've bookmarked it so I can refer back to it.

Off to hunt for my pregnancy book from first time around Grin.

I normally drink soooo much tea (upto eight cups a day at work) but since being pg I can't face the stuff! I've tried drinking a couple of mugs over the last few weeks (only in tm1) but makes me feel so sick! I've found that I seem to just listen to my body, seems to be teg me what I should and shouldn't have! For example also feel sick at sight of eggs - formally a firm fav!
