I am at week 32 of pregnancy, and I would like to know if anyone tried of the fetal monitors for home usage?

I want to try something like it , but I am looking for some recomendations, so, fellow future moms :-) , anyone tried something like it lately?

Galit.

I got a summer listening device, it isn't very good. But that might be because my placenta is right at the front so masks all the noises.

FlipFantasia · 27/03/2011 16:33

I had one in my first pregnancy (Angel Sounds) but really only used it until I could feel the baby move every day (maybe up to week 22/23). I then read this story on the BBC news site which put me right off. I became worried about the false reassurance aspect of using it, so decided to sell it on and just keep an eye on movements instead.

TheNewShmoo · 27/03/2011 18:18

Rubbish- I`have the Summer one. Drives me nuts trying to find the heartbeat.

CBear6 · 27/03/2011 21:50

I've got the Angel Sounds one as I had a mmc last time and wanted the reassurance of being able to listen in. I'm 16 weeks today and have been able to hear things with it since around 12 weeks, just movements at first but since about 14 weeks the heartbeat too. I've started feeling movement so I'm using it less but it's nice to have and I find it quite soothing listening to my baby. DS likes using it to listen to my heartbeat too, then he puts his head against my chest to double check.

I think so long as it's use for fun rather than home diagnosing then it's fine. If there were any problems then I'd go to my midwife, whether I'd heard a heartbeat on the monitor or not.

The Angel Sounds one is definitely the best of a bad bunch though and one of the only ones to get positive reviews on the consumer websites.

I had the one <a class="break-all" href="http://www.anawiz.com/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=www.anawiz.com/acatalog/fetal_doppler.html%3fgclid%3dCKzutI3S76cCFUtC4QodWHeEZw&WD=hbs01&PN=Hi_Bebe__BT200__Sound.html%23aHBS01#aHBS01" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here and loved it. Really easy to use, rented it and ended up buying it outright and then selling it on ebay for about 3/4 what I paid for it.

If you ever think something is wrong, always seek medical advice but I just used it to listen to the heartbeat, I just like hearing it. I was funn when baby had hiccups too!

SallyScuttles · 27/03/2011 22:07

I should add that it was the same one as my MW had when she came to do my checks at home so think it must be a decent one, expensive though.

lizandlulu · 27/03/2011 22:23

i have the angel sounds one, i got it off ebay brand new for £25 and love it. i only listen to it a couple of times a week, but as i am 21 week and not feeling a great dela, its nice just to listen to as i can hear it moving through it too.

m0nkeynuts · 27/03/2011 22:45

I had one the same as SallyScuttles' one and LOVED it! Wouldn't have ever considered it a substitute for proper antenatal care & advice, but it was lovely to be able to listen in whenever I wanted!

I honestly don't see how an iPhone app can pick up fetal movement. I wouldn't waste your money!

JumpingForJuly · 29/03/2011 15:31

Ive toyed with the idea of getting one since I found out i was pregnant, Im nearly 26 weeks and have so far resisted only because I know I would be obsessed and would worry myself sick if I couldnt find heartbeat.
Like FlipFantasia says Id go with movements instead, you cant mistake feeling your baby move but could be picking up your own heartbeat thinking it babys.x

RugbyWidow7 · 29/03/2011 19:44

I'm 19 weeks and bought the Angel Sounds device on ebay a few weeks ago for £25. There are plenty of second hands ones on there (milton cleaned) if you'd prefer one.

I find it brilliant esp for DH - as I'm starting to feel the baby kick, it's great for him to hear the heartbeat until he can feel the movements for himself. I listen to it nearly every day. You have to use the lubricant with it to get it to work properly, then it works a treat.

Maybe a second hand one would be the best option for you, as you've only got a few weeks to go Smile!

I had the Angel Sounds one but it was faulty - it only worked once or twice then packed in. It was good when it worked, although it did take me ages to find the find the heartbeat which made me panic! Once I returned it I decided not to get another one in the end.

I think they are good as long as you don't worry too much if you can't find the hb straight away. Saying that, my midwife said they usually advise against them - they use really powerful ones and have had loads of training and can still sometimes have trouble finding it!

I think feeling movement is much better... also something wonderful about hearing your baby's hb when you see the midwife - brings tears to my eyes every time!

well - for some reason someone here deleted my massage (maybe it's a secret... lol ) ,

but I can tell you that there is an iPhone app for picking up the baby's heart beat.
