4d scans

Hi all, first timer here, just wondered if anyone had any positive/negative experiences to share about 4d scans. Having decided not to find out the sex at 20 weeks we've now changed our minds at 26 weeks and want to know so will have to go down the private route. Having done a bit of research I'm wondering if we should have a 4d one. Would anyone really recommend it? I suppose I'm not sure if I'm ready to see its face yet, if you know what I mean.
Any advice appreciated!

Totally wonderful! Well worth the money. Have been to the one in Barnsley and the one in Middlesbrough, both very good.

lovely experience. we went for it as our local hospital have a strict policy on siblings not being in for the routine scans. It was lovely for ds1 and dd1 to be involved and excited. It made it more real for them and they then wanted to talk to bump and feel kicks as they felt more connected to their new sister. They were each given a small picture in a wallet for themselves as well as the pictures we were given. We never actually got a full face shot as she hid behind her arm a lot.

It was much more relaxed and informal than the hospital (understandable as they are there to check on the health of baby) not to entertain or indulge us. I would advise not leaving it too much longer though as after 30 weeks they become quite cramped in there and clear shots are not always possible.

we have one booked for 28 weeks cannot wait, this will be our last baby so we are going for it this time. Also would like confirmation on the sex as been told this is a girl and after three boys..well im slightly in denial Grin

ds2 particularly excited about the new arrival so cannot wait to show him the dvd afterwards!!

We really enjoyed ours. It really helped me because I experienced some (obviously totally unrelated) complications afterwards and looking at the pictures helped me bond with the baby rather than thinking of it as an illness and the pain it was causing me.

As it happens we've now had a lot of hospital scans sinece the 20 week one we thought would be our last but its the 3D photos I return to look at. The video we've watched a few times but I think it'll be nice to see it again after our baby is born and to eventually be able to show it.

If I'm ever pregnant again I think it will be a good way of explaining pregnancy and my new bump to our eldest.

Hey,

It's says you should wait until at least 26 weeks before having a 4d scan. Has anyone done it before then? And what was the result?

Thanks

nicolamumof3 · 27/03/2011 09:30

The clinic I'm going to won't do it til 28w

maccie · 27/03/2011 12:36

a colleague of mine had hers done at 21 weeks

I had a 4d scan done by a friend of a friend who does them for a living. She recommended 32 weeks as babies have a bit of fat on them by then and so look a little less scary! It was wonderful, I highly recommend it.

PenguinsMummy · 28/03/2011 08:58

We have done 4D scans with all 3 of our DD's - DD3 due in a couple of weeks and did each one at 30 weeks. It was a really lovely experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it and it made it very real and your bump into a proper little person.

Checkmate · 28/03/2011 09:03

I had one in my last pregnancy at Beard Mill Clinic in Oxfordshire.

Wonderful and serene. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

The doctor there likes to do them at - ideally - 26 weeks, though she says good results until 29 weeks. By then they have enough fat, but don't keep covered up. She said by 30 weeks it can be really difficult to get good shots of the face, as so squashed.

crazybutterflylady · 28/03/2011 10:03

We had one done at 28 weeks, it was a really lovely experience and really helped me feel close to the baby rather than it just seem like a foetus, if that makes sense? I kind of feel like I'll recognise her when she is born Grin She has a long second toe like mine and sleeps like her dad. Weird!

We used Babybond - it's a franchise so they have quite a few places I think - and the sonographer was really lovely.

Geronimonkey · 29/03/2011 20:44

I would love to have one of these done. But what have you heard about their safety? What did your doctor say when you said you were going to have one?

therealmrsbeckham · 30/03/2011 04:51

We had one with DS2 at 28 wks. We took DD and DS1 and it was really lovely and i'd highly recommend it.

We came home with colour pics,DVD and a little bear with a recording of DS2'S heartbeat in it which the other DC absolutley loved.

As for safety I believe that there are no more risks involved than with a traditional 2d scan.

We used a company called see your baby.
