Can you get pelvic inflammation with SPD?

I've been suffering with SPD since about 20 weeks pregnant and I'm not 32+5. Yesterday and today I've had horrible pains in my lower bump, which make it near impossible to walk. Because this is worse than normal, I was wondering if my lower tummy/pelvic area could actually be inflamed..? Has anyone heard of this and if it is possible, what can I do to make it go away? Antibiotics?

My SPD started with pain in my groin area at around 20 weeks. Gradually the pain got worse and its now across the front of my pelvis, lower back and I have a touch of sciatia too.

SPD is imflamation of the ligaments in your pelvis. As pregnancy progresses the pain can move around/get worse. Unfortunatly you can't take anti inflamatories in pregnancy.

Have you seen you GP about it? I eventually got prescribed dihydrocodine for the pain I'm in. But the GP was loathe to go for anythign stonger than paracetamol. It was my ob/gyn at the hospital that prescribed them, after physio and a support belt didn't help at all. I'm now 37 weeks.

This www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk/ has lots of useful info about SPD/PGP.

Hi and thanks for the response and info. Sorry to hear you've been suffering with this condition for several weeks now!

I told my MW about the pain and she got me a physio referral, but it turned out to be a class for several women and not an individualised appointment. It was somewhat helpful to learn about the different positions, exercises and how to go through the daily tasks without triggering the pain unnecessarily, but all in all it would have been nicer to have some more concrete and individualised help.

I didn't realise it is an inflammation! I've been taking paracetamol occasionally, when I can't stand the pain and need to go somewhere, but it doesn't really ease the pain. I bought a support belt, but just a cheap one from Mothercare and I don't wear it any more, because it's no help. I was hoping to get a support belt from the physio, but obviously didn't..

I think I'll try and see my GP or MW again and ask for another referral to the physio again. Perhaps they could also prescribe something stronger for the pain this time. I just hope I won't have to start using crutches..
