Early Back Pain

It's very early days (5 weeks) in my first pregnancy and I have quite a bit of back pain in my lower back. It has been happening over the last couple of weeks (particularly this week) and most notably when sat at my desk.

I haven't told anyone yet, so don't want to make a fuss at work. Does anyone have any suggestions of gentle ways to ease it? Also, how long does this tend to last?

Thanks in advance for any help x

Hi, I had/have this. lower back pain was actually my very first sympton, had it days before i even found out i was pregnant! we got a new mattress so i thought it was this. I found out at 4/5weeks so it sounds the same as you. i am now nearly 12wks and the pain is still there, its not as much though so im hoping its on its way out!

Ive not really been doing anything to ease it. im quite naughty. i always just see things out. dont really ever take pain relief for anything. I think this may change though in 6mths!! lol.

I'm the same as no1childminder it was very first symptom, got it 10po and know I was preggo a few days before testing! It was scary tho as back pain can be a sign of micarriage. Mine went around 6/7 weeks I think, I had loads of aches and pains for the first few weeks....

i've had achy back - not pain as such, but feels achy.

I tried to knit yesterday and it really hurt - like i was straining.

have you checked to make sure your seat is okay?
and don't slouch, even on the settee, cos this ca make it worse.

if you feel achy, then stand up and stretch to the ceiling as much as you can.

you can also arch your back by folding yourself down (make sure you use your stomach muscles to do this, because you could hurt yourself) - then when you're down as low as you can go, move your shoulders from side to side.
then ease yourself back up again, bringing your head up last.
they're both stretched we do in dance class to ease our backs if we've been doing lots of hip movements.

Thanks guys, glad to know I'm not alone. I had it for a good few days before I did the test too. It doesn't seem to bad at home, so I think it must be my seat at work. I'll have to look and try to change the position.
