  • I'm 40+3 and just picked up the last few things for my hospital bag yesterday
  • Those things plus a few others are still scattered around the house
  • All the baby gear arrived in the country in a shipping container yesterday and I'm not sure when it will get to us, and don't really care
  • Of the newborn clothes I've borrowed/bought off Ebay, there are only sleepsuits and cross over vests - not an impractical going home outfit in sight
  • We haven't chosen a name and will narrow it down to a shortlist when he arrives
  • I've got no idea where we should park at the hospital, but have emergency childcare covered for the next two weeks
  • I'm not excited about fitting into my pre-pregnancy clothes as I know it won't happen for a while, but can't wait for that blissful moment of reaching to pick something up off the floor and actually being able to

anyone else? Smile

Ha ha Grin very good (although for Gods sake woman, at 40+3 get the damn bag packed!!!!). Love the "not an impractical going home outfit in sight one" as was thinking this am of what I need to buy and honestly am only considering white sleepsuits and vests. No rubbish.

Number 3 here -

Amost 31 weeks. Absolutely nothing done for impending arrival. Have not bought as much as a nappy or vest. The "nursery" is still the junk room and is likely to stay that way for the foreseeable future.

My mother told me last night, that in the nicest possible way, shes beginning to worry as dh and I dont seem to have realised there will me a new child in our house in the next few weeks.

With dd 1, nursery was decorated, bag was packed, clothes were washed and folded in drawer by now.

saoirse86 · 25/03/2011 11:20

I am going to learn lots of these things for next time.

I had DD's cot up and with bedding (!) from about 27 weeks pg. She didn't go in the cot at all until she was 3 weeks old, which obviously meant I had to re-wash and re-make the bedding.

I had stupid clothes for her to come home in. They were too big and I never ended up using them at all.

I can't understand why people buy a special car seat to bring the baby home in. I can't remember what car seat we had but it's not the one we have now because I bought it when she was 3 months old. It really has made no difference to our lives what she travelled those 3 miles home in.

Ditto which car we used. DP's car was at the mechanics and he was using the mechanics horrible battered old car. I pleaded with him to just go home and pick up my car. He refused and borrowed his dad's mercedes. Who cares what car it is? As it happens I loved my little 10 year old punto! Grin

I'm sure there plenty more ridiculous things we did but I can't remember them.

ThisIsYourSong · 25/03/2011 11:42

BarbieLovesKen - Ha ha, the bag is packed really, although only a few weeks ago. It was just a few extra things for me (not for the baby honestly!). The other things are stuff I use all the time but have decided to make a list so I don't forget anything when the time actually comes!

saoirse - your car story is so funny. I just remember my DH driving home from the hospital so slowly

Bratfink · 25/03/2011 11:44

i've forgotten to go and see the midwife since booking in appt (23 weeks)

buttonmoon78 · 25/03/2011 13:04

22 wks with #4:

People keep asking how pg I am and I have to look on my phone (where I have it in my calendar for just such a question).

Instead of buying clothes because they're 'cute' I'm buying nappies whenever I have any change. I even emptied the penny pot into one of those counting machines the other day so that I could get another pack!

I keep forgetting I'm pg.

The symptoms are now not simply overheating and overeating but include such delights as last nights shocker - labial varicose veins Grin.

I have a travel system but Shock the car seat and the rest don't match and I don't care. Weirdly, DH does Confused.

I too am not excited about clothes - but I am about not having to work out which slip on shoes I'll wear. I'm currently having fantasies in which I can wear my converse boots again Blush as there's not a hope at the moment!

camdancer · 25/03/2011 13:22

I'm 30 wks with DC3 - I think. I have a webpage bookmarked that tells me how far gone I am.

Instead of reading birthing and new baby books, I'm reading Mummy Laid an Egg and Where Willy Went.

For my glucose monitoring test, I had just over half a bottle of Lucozade and hoped it was the right amount. First time round I took a measuring jug with me to work to get it exactly right. Oh and I had the test a week late.

I've not even thought about getting the baby clothes out yet. The cot is built, but that was more because it was a hazard in pieces with DS and DD using the bars as a zoo cage.

People keep asking me what we need for the new baby and I have absolutely no idea. Apart from clothes, bedding and a pram - all of which we have in the loft, I hope, what else do they need? Nappies is a really good one though - might try that.

buttonmoon78 · 25/03/2011 13:32

And it's not because I'm not excited - I am. It's just that life is already so full and busy that anything which can be put off until tomorrow is. And as my baby's not coming tomorrow, it can all wait!

lia66 · 25/03/2011 14:33

number 6 here, 40+3 also

Moses basket is still in the loft

no car seat yet (am homebirthing so no need for trip home from hosp, and if need does arise, dh can nip to Mothercare, right? )

Only bought pushchair and a sling last week

have been trying to wait till car boots start up again (this sunday) to stock up on baby clothes, (however, mil has taken it upon herself to stock up from charity shop that she works in as sil told her we have nothing, :) )

Err, I'm sure there's more, I have packed a birthing bag so dh can get to everything he needs when the time is upon us

Babies need a few clothes, nappies and somewhere to sleep, thats it really to start

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 25/03/2011 14:52

Only DC2 here.
Last time I had everything washed and ready by 36 weeks, we bought our pushchair by 25 weeks and the carsea by 30.
The hammock nest was washed, assembled and ready with sheets and little blue ribbons (which lasted all of 5 minutes) by 35 weeks.
It was good, really, because my waters broke at 36 weeks and I spent a week moping waiting for labour then another week in hospital.

I'm just over 36 weeks now (I always have to count on my fingers how many days it has been since thursday when my new week starts, and constantly have to check how many weeks I've actually completed), and this week I've sorted through a gigantic pile of DS's clothes that have been gathering in my bedroom corner since we moved into this house in november. The pile has been disributed into 8 labeled boxes, but the one with the newborn clothes is still in my cupboard and needs sorting through again, and washing. Maybe next week, maybe not.
we haven't bought a new pushchair, or carseat, or sling. they are all in a cupboard somewhere, and all need a rather good wash or five.
The cot, which got taken apart and removed from DS's room last week is standing in its pieces in the corner of our room, which is also filled with another 3million boxes, an airer and still has no carpet.

I have, however, bought a load of newborn cloth nappies, just because I had a good excuse to.

I have 2 packs of maternity towels and some leftover breastpads somewhere. If I went into labour now, it would be a bit of a mad scramble to get everything sorted, but I don't think it's gonna happen anyway.
there is time. :o

clouiseg · 25/03/2011 20:37

When people ask how much longer I have (dc4) I answer...a while yet (as opposed to 6 weeks 2 days / some other equally detailed timescale!)

I actually forget I'm pregnant in the chaos of everyday life then look down and the huuuuge 33 week bump reminds me!

Instead of counting down the weeks til baby arrives I'm measuring it in "how many nights of undisturbed sleep can I squeeze in"!

I feel a hundred years older than with previous pregnancies!

I too have hideous varicose veins 'down there'!

I have no knickers for hospital & keep forgetting to buy them!

I'm fully booked up with appointments/meetings/commitments right up until my due date so literally DON'T have time to give birth before!! Grin

ThisIsYourSong · 27/03/2011 10:18

Glad its not just me! Put up the cot today - no new mattress for it yet - and the new pram which arrived a couple of weeks ago is sitting in the garage in bits... that can wait for now! Will give the FIL something to do when he arrives.

lia how are you doing?? I am fed up!

OP posts:
HalleLouja · 27/03/2011 11:08

I am actually more organised! DS was 6 weeks early so trying to get things in motion now as am 27 weeks and something days.

Am trying to save money rather than splurge though - looking at what I can reuse / borrow. DH is in major nesting mood Grin bless him I can't keep up.

We have just got DS out the cot so that is still up, buggy needs fixing, lots of stuff in the loft but apart from that we are on it.

Lozario · 27/03/2011 14:29

I'm 40+4 with second DC.

Am not even thinking about washing all the newborn clothes before use this time- what an epic waste of time that was?!

And no chodding raspberry leaf tea either. Didn't make a blind bit of difference last time, DS1 was 12 days late!

Lookandlearn · 27/03/2011 17:10

Have bought one item of maternity wear and that felt like extravagance. Instead of dh lovingly talking to baby (although he does sometimes) have dd and ds giving bump cuddles ( do love that-ds watches telly with cheek resting on bump). Am planning homebirth to avoid childcare issues as much as for any other. Can imagine coping rather than blind panic.

Lynzilove · 27/03/2011 18:36

Is it really bad that i'm having my first and can kinda relate to some of this.
-keep forgetting im pregnant and think im having a fat day
-have cot up but only as its somewhere to dump the stuff we've bought - secondhand as its come up or ive been allowed one thing a week when shopping
-have bought no baby clothes, its first grandchild so it'll be spoilt!
-my mums got me the travel system from my brothers DS, not even seen it yet.
-and as for washing clothes and putting bedding together, 'nesting'-i have about 6 weeks off beofre my due date to do that.

Lookandlearn · 27/03/2011 19:54

No, lunch, it's a good indicator that you'll be less pfb about your pfb!

pipplin · 27/03/2011 20:53

Am 23 weeks with DS2.
I somehow thought I was a week behind, bit embarrassing when someone pointed that out to me!
Need to get a double buggy and car seat, I don't really care when
Need to get a sling at some point
Nappies- good point, I forgot about that!
Probably should sort childcare out at some point too

By this time with DS we were buying something in the shopping a week, buying a buggy etc getting a stash of nappies.

I've got ages and a 9 month old to discourage climbing up the tv, stairs etc!

Just thought, labour bag- I don't even know where that went!

Beveridge · 27/03/2011 21:13

31 weeks pg with 2nd baby.
The only things I don't eat are rare/cured meat and goat's cheese.
Was out for tea last night with non-pregnant people and the only alcoholic drink ordered from our table was for me!
The only new things we have bought for DC2 have been a pack of first size vests and babygros.
I fitted myself for pregnancy bras because I can do a better job of it by just trying them on than your average bra fitter does with a tape measure.

Caz10 · 27/03/2011 21:16

32 weeks with DC2, nothing and I mean NOTHING bought, sorted or organised! Starting to panic financially, as although we don't need to buy very much, I think I'm leaving it too close to space out the purchases.

No name, no clue of how far on I am if my phone is not nearby to tell me!

Oh, and DH not the slightest bit interested in putting his hand on the bump to feel the kicks. Arse.

itisntreallyme · 27/03/2011 21:50

Very reassuring thread this one! Here's mine...

  • I can't tell you off the top of my head how many weeks pregnant I am. It's about 6 months. DC2.
  • I keep forgetting I am pregnant until the wee thing wriggles
  • Wee thing isn't actually a nickname, nor does it have a nickname. It is mostly known, imaginatively, as number 2
  • I am hardly thinking twice about what I eat or drink
  • My shopping list, until I read this thread, consisted of buggy board and new sling. Should DC2 turn out to be a boy he can wear DD1's castoffs until he is old enough to demand otherwise Grin Having read this thread I may add nappies to the list.
  • Far from writing a birthing plan I am positively refusing to think about the birth. It will be. It will probably be awful. It will be over.
BrandyAlexander · 27/03/2011 22:00

I am so glad its not just me! 6 weeks to go and this poor child has no name (we can't decide), no clothes (still boxed up and need bringing down from loft), no where to sleep (moses basket needs a bloomin good clean!), no nappies (yup will get round to it sometime soon) and its car seat and pram also need a bloomin' good clean. As someone else said, I am sooo busy that he better not arrive early, else I am stuffed!

motherofsnortpigs · 27/03/2011 22:55

Big wave to clouiseg and my jue in june buddies. No idea how pg I am, but I know I'm due the same week my SIL gets married. Had a homebirth with DC3 and I hadn't put the boy clothes anywhere obvious so his first outfit was a pinkish pooh and piglet babygrow that DD1 found in the nursery somehow. I am hoping that no one will buy this baby any clothes and just buy me chocolate and gin (I'm out of both). DD2 has latched on to our boy name but insists it's a girls name - we don't have a girls name. Is anyone else a bit bored of people saying, 'Ooh, you'll have your work cut out.'?

Dilligaf81 · 27/03/2011 23:05

I was like this with the first 3 DC then due to some complications the consultant said I was very likely to go into labour early so was really prepared. DC4 came the day after her due date which was the latest of all of mine. She was supposed to be small as well - 10lb 1 as it happens.

buttonmoon78 · 28/03/2011 05:05

Well at least it galvanised you into action Diliga! Grin Hmm

Motherofsnortpigs I am bored of people saying that. Frankly, yes, I will but I'm damned if I'll admit that to anyone. It will be hard, undoubtedly, but I'm looking forward to it (strangely enough, that's why dc4 is on the way - a choice)! And I've not screwed my other 3 up too badly yet so I'm guessing I'll manage ok with #4 too!

ThisIsYourSong · 28/03/2011 06:38

Is anyone else a bit bored of people saying, 'Ooh, you'll have your work cut out.'?

Yes! The midwife today said 'I'm not sure what to say'. I replied the default seems to be 'You're going to have your hands full'.

Have been booked in for a c/s on Friday if he doesn't come before then. I'm sure I can be ready by then!!
