Hi girls, Johnny here. My Luce is developing 'restless legs' during the evening. Anyone have similar experiences and any ideas how to alleviate the prob?

You are on the HG thread? Is Luce on cyclizine? I get really twitchy crampy legs but only since I have been on cyclizine. Hard to know if it is from pregnancy or from the anti-nausea meds. Interesting.

I, however, have no idea how to stop it. It drives me mad. I feel like I need to stretch and kick my legs but they ache at the same time and stretching and kicking doesn't relieve it. I hate it and will watch this with interest :)

thanks 'coconuts'. luce isnt on cyclizine, she's on metachlopromide, but I suppose its similar to cyclizine. she's had very similar experiences to you! hopefully someone has maybe found a way of relief which can help both Luce and you :-)

I sure hope so :)

I had the same thing with Stemetil. I got some clarins cooling leg gel which was fab. Oh and body shop peppermint foot lotion.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 24/03/2011 21:15

I found this It seems rather common and is exacerbated by antihistamines ie anti-emetics.

I have had it before, not during pregnancy, so I suppose I was predisposed to get it.

If you manage to find anything that relieves it let me know :)

Pumpster · 24/03/2011 21:16

I suffered really badly with this in my last 2 pregnancies, almost from the outset. Bananas are meant to help but didn't with me really. I found cooling leg sprays and a warm bath before bed sometimes helped. It's really horrible she has my sympathies!

THANKYOU EVERYONE. WILL PASS ON MESSAGES X

I have this too! I'm nearly 34 weeks - its driving me mad. I eat lots of bananas anyway. I'm not on any medication for anything, but I still have it. If anyone can stop i'll be very pleased to hear.

KatieWatie · 24/03/2011 21:57

I get this quite badly anyway, but it's been especially bad while I've been pregnant. I thought it was to do with being tired, and as I've been extra-tired while pg that sort of makes sense.

Earlier nights have helped me but if I carry on I'll be going to bed before I'm even getting up!

CBear6 · 24/03/2011 22:17

I've got it too and I'm only 15+4, had it really badly when I was pregnant with DS too. I'm not on any medication an I honestly feel like I could rive my own legs off just to be rid of it. DH is being lovely and tries to rub them for me and my feet too but that just irritates me even more.

I've been going to bed early, laying in a cool bed with no PJs on and the window open helps a bit - something to do with a drop in temperature maybe? I'm going to lurk on the thread and pick up some home remedies, bananas and cooling foot spray are on my shopping list.

Leilababyno1 · 24/03/2011 22:28

I had it terribly around wks 28-30...The one thing that helped was a small glass of wine half an hour before bed. Obviously not every night, just when it was particulary bad..

My mum is a senior OT and even the docs recommend this for their elderly patients with RLS.

CravingExcitement · 24/03/2011 22:31

I found that taking pregnancy vits cured it completely, don't know what I was lacking, but it was certainly in those little tablets!

CravingExcitement · 24/03/2011 22:33

I also found that stretching my calf muscles helped, I would stand with on a step on my toes with my heels hanging off the step iyswim, and give my poor calves a really deep stretch. I still do this now before going to bed, as I still have a tendency to get it, esp when tired.

Leilababyno1 · 24/03/2011 22:35

Iron is the main deficiency which can be responsible for RLS. So, never hurts to keep your iron levels up as well!

johnnyd1 · 24/03/2011 22:45

It's really weird (it's still Johnny - yes the one from the HG threads!) how many of you ladies have this but that there seems to be so many varied ways of trying to cure the probs! Luce is about to start her 22nd week and the baby is kicking like a good 'un. I've bought her a maternity pillow (v-shaped) which shold help her in some ways whilst she sleeps. As for this restless legs scenario... well I suppose at least the HG is improving slowly. The restless legs case seems minor in relation to the HG, although I can imagine its also a pain the arse for you (or pain in the leg!). Thankyou for all replying... keep em rolling x

I get it bad too at 30 weeks, I've been lying in bed with my feet up on the wall for 10 mins to stretch my legs before sleep ... seems to work but makes my indigestion worse! yay!

soppypreggyloon · 25/03/2011 08:11

I have it too and am 35 weeks.
My mum gets it every night! Shock since menopause. She's been to the dr and they suggest stretches. This makes no difference to her or me tho. They ended up prescribing dopamine (I think) which youvan take in short courses for it. Obv not when pg tho!

I had it with ds too and it went almost as soon as he arrived. :)

It's one of those can't be helped of symptoms IMO.
