I'm not there yet - I've got a few weeks to go. Perhaps you can try to focus on how amazing it is to see your baby on the screen? Do you remember how wonderful that was? I'm so excited about my 20 week scan so that I can watch it wriggling around again...

Hello, I had two twenty week scans because the baby was so wriggly on the first one that they couldn't do any of the measurements!

I was anxious before hand but seeing how much the baby has developed since the twelve week scan was amazing. It does take a bit longer than the 12 week scan, I thought I was going to wet myself in the end, but it is because they are measuring all the different parts of your baby.

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow, don't forget to tell the sonographer if you want to find out the sex or not!

thanks for your replies! good idea to try to focus on being excited and how amazing being pregnant is. think i am going to be nervous till the very end!!

ivegot - that is funny about feeling like you are going to wet yourself - at the 12wk one i was a bit overzealous with the water and the sonographer made me go pee twice because my bladder was so full!! hoping not to repeat that again tomorrow - don't think they were too impressed ;)

I was almost physically sick at my 20 week scan. I had convinced myself that something would be wrong with my baby. I couldn't even speak to my DP in the waiting room. Thankfully other MN's had warned that the scan could take a while and that the sonographer/midwife doesn't really speak to you during the scan as they are measuring the baby and doing indepth checks. If I hadn't have read this, I would have probably passed out due to stress and anxiety at the silence. I just couldn't relax during my scan as I kept waiting for her to say something was wrong.

If I could turn the clock back, I wouldn't have stressed so much, I would have relaxed and enjoyed my scan. I would advise you to do the same as it is such a special time and is possibly the last time you get to see your baby on scan before you give birth. Chances are your baby will be perfect.

Enjoy your scan and don't forget to purchase your pictures of your precious bundle.

I'm sure you'll be fine Smile

Drink plenty of liquid - full bladder required. The 20 wk scan takes aaaaages in my experience. Both times for me it was done in utter silence - don't panic about this as its pretty normal - there are so many things to check & measure. It doesn't indicate anything sinister. If you're in danger of weeing yourself (I was!) then say so - the full bladder is needed for part of the scan but not all so they let me out to the loo part-way through

Oh now Ivegotmrbitey has got me even more excited and it's still 6 weeks away for me!

Fizzypigs - I'm so with you on the nerves thing. I'm Mrs Worst Case Scenario in the imagination. I worried throughout conception too, fearing I wouldn't be able to do it. I just keep reminding myself that most pregnancies work out just fine. Good luck tomorrow!

I've got mine in a couple of weeks and am both excited and nervous!

JetLi - the sonographer said that a full bladder was only required for 12 week scan. Midwife repeated this at my last appointment. Really hope that's the case as I'm not good at holding it in at the best of times!

I have had 2 one with DD I was very very nervous and thankfully all was well.
With DS I was equally as nervous and something was spotted, however it was good that it was my DS has been having tests since birth and has been on antibiotics from day 1. He has an abnormal shaped bladder that means his urine reluxes back into his kidneys (quite common apparently) if this hadn't been spotted I would have been non the wiser as he seems to be perfect. However by it being spotted and treated with antibiotics this means he has had no nasty infections which is good.
Not trying to scare you at all, just wanted to make it clear that it doesn't all have to be bad when something is spotted.
I am currently pregnant again and will be equally as scared for the 20 week scan as I was with the other 2, but it won't be worse because of what happened to DS as like I said it really is a good thing it was spotted and treatment started early on.

I have had to have a full bladder for all my scans, but I think it differs from hospital to hospital were you given a leaflet about the scan? It was in my leaflet but if you are unsure just ring them, or fill it up and ask when you get there it isn't a problem to empty your bladder if not needed, but if you have an empty bladder and need a full one then it involves waiting around and drinking lots.

Hope all goes well.
