I'm 36 weeks now (measuring 42 cm), and the baby has been big all along (daddy is tall!!), but since 32 weeks I've been getting bigger and bigger, and now have confirmed polyhydramnios with an AFI of 27. I'm freaking out because the stuff you can read about seems to suggest about 50% of babies have problems and I just can't stop thinking about it. They are thinking of inducing me at 38 weeks because I'm so huge :(

My diabetes test was normal, and the 20 weeks scan was too. Baby has the longest legs in the world - off the scale! Just don't know what to think.

If anyone else out there has had something similar please let me know! I'm just trying to keep sane and hoping baby will be fine, but so worried. :(

Thanks gimmegimmegimme. It's really good to hear that your baby was fine.

I have been verging on polyhydramnios this pregnancy - highest AFI was 23.8 - but fluid levels have come down in third trimester. The consultant told me that she didn't really worry about mild polyhydramnios if baby was also big (mine is - estimated birth weight of 10lb 6), as big babies often just make more fluid. I think the 50% stat you've read probably relates more to people with severe polyhydramnios - I am sure when I was looking into this that I read that the vast majority of mild polyhdramnios cases are unexplained.

That's good to know Grumpyfish. I thought 27 was off the scale. Just need to get through the next week. Sleeping is interesting with such a big bump lol!

I think 27 is still quite low - polyhdramnios will only be formally diagnosed (at my hospital anyway) at 24, and I'm sure there are stories on here about people with AFIs in the 40s! Good luck with the sleeping!
