Doula for after the birth

Hi was hoping to get some advice as will most likely be having my second dc by elcs after complications with the first.
We would like somebody to help me in hosp after the baby is born... passing them to me helping with changing etc and especially cracking the breastfeeding but also to help at home for a couple of weeks after as DH will be looking after ds who will be 21 months as our family don't live close by.
Would a doula be the right choice for this? Has anybody had experience and what sort of costs are we going to be looking at?
Any help much appreciated thanks :)

A doula could well be a good choice - I was looking into one when I was expecting DD2 as I was worried about coping with DD1 (who was just under 3) when DH went back to work. As it turned out it didn't work out for us that time round, but I'd certainly consider it again if I have a DC3.

From what I found out, the price will be very variable depending on how much you want them to do so the best bet is to have a dig round, find a couple you like the look of and give them a call. It would be worth talking about how much help they can give you in hospital. I'm guessing there may be advantages in having a doula that is familiar with your hospital as they may then get a lot more latitude in how much time they can spend there - but that should be an area that a doula is familiar with and can inform you about.

Good luck :0

Thanks am going to do some research on the doula website. It hadn't occurred to me that they would only be able to stay during visiting hours silly me! How did you find it coping with s newborn and a 3yr old?
