Hi,
I had pre eclampsia with DD2(only mild i think but was induced as was close to due date anyway) but not with DD1.I am now pregnant with DC3 and worrying about the risk of this re occuring...i havent been to the mw as yet to ask.Does anyone know please?
thanks

I think that if you have had pre-eclampsia in a previous pregnancy you are more likely to get it than someone who hasn't had it before, but the chance is still low.

I had PE with DS and didn't even get any high BP with DD.

You should get extra checks as it can be more likely for you to get it again, I have had it pretty severely on both pregnancies.

Watching this thread with interest as I have the same question. I am at the mw on Friday so will report back. Lawrie, that is very heartening to hear - I hope I am the same!

I think the type of PE most likely to re-occur in subsequent pregnancies is severe early onset PE (pre-35 weeks ish). crappy the fact that you didn't get PE with your firstborn is a good sign that you should have a good shot of not getting it again with DC3.

I had severe early onset PE (DS born at 30 wks) with my firstborn and had it with DC2 and DC3 sadly too, though thanks to excellent antenatal care and low dose aspirin (plus blood pressure meds later in pregnancy) made it to 36 and 37 weeks respectively.

Definitely ensure that your midwife knows your history and extra checks are made, particularly in the third trimester, but mild later onset PE is not so likely to re-occur so hoping you'll have a long, healthy pregnancy ahead of you
