Weight gain - is yours tracked at antenatal appts?

I'm not worried, just a bit surprised and wonder about your experiences. Has anyone else stopped putting on weight at about 7-8 months pg?

I've not put on any weight for the last 4-5 weeks. My midwives don't seem to track weight change during pg, just initial weight at the booking appt. They do measure fundal height and it always says "=dates". I did ask about expected weight gain, midwives confirmed it should be 1lb or so a week at the moment but didn't seem concerned about no weight gain.

(Pg started at a healthy BMI and I've put on

No, weight isn't tracked unless your BMI is worryingly high or low such that there may be additional risk to the baby. I put on loads of weight in trimester 2 but hardly any in trimester 3 (now 38 weeks) I think its because baby is using more energy to grow but I haven't changed my diet. If your bump is growing okay there's no need to worry about whether your bum is growing to match :)

Nope, they use the size of your stomach. I have only gained 6 pounds and the midwives keep saying, "well done" when I mention it as I was overweight to start with.

I'm glad they've stopped doing this. When I had DD 18 years ago, the MW was obsessed with the scales! I'd been putting on around a lb a week but then in the final week didn't put on any weight and this was used as an excuse to bully me into hospital to be induced instead of having the HB I had wanted Angry

After posting I realised I was a bit vague. I think I just expected weight to be tracked one way or another... it's all everyone else seems to talk about when they see me (aunts, MIL etc say I am "massive and will go at any time") I put on most of my weight very early in pg (nausea had me grazing constantly!)

No, honestly they don't. Partly because, as Bling says, people who were already on the heavy side felt like they should keep gaining weight when in fact they can healthily lose fat at the same rate they grow their bump and other bits.

I had low BMI and my weight was never tracked though baby received growth scans to make sure she wasn't too small. I only put on half a stone by term and baby weighed a healthy 6.4 lbs. Fundal height is more important (though can be inaccurate).

My weight is being tracked but it's probably because I live in France.

So far have lost weight (am 12 weeks) due to sickness. Gynecologist was nice about it but told me to try and put on some weight for the next time (in 1 month).

I was never weighed in my last pregnancy (I guess-timated my pre-preg weight for them) & have only been weighed once in this pregnancy.

nunnie · 23/03/2011 14:50

I had my weight checked at booking, and because my BMI is low it was never monitored, and I don't own weighing scales so don't monitor it myself.
My DD was suspected to be small and had growth scans, and she was small but healthy when she came, but don't think that is linked ot my weight personally.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 23/03/2011 15:15

In my last pregnancy I started out with a BMI of 17, and my weight was never tracked or even checked. I had no growth scans as fundal height = dates was pretty much the norm for me all the way through.

This time I started out with a BMI of 19 and was weighed a few times at the beginning, then it was stopped. Been booked for a growth scan this time, though, because fundal height has only increased 3 cms in 8 weeks.

I think it all depends on various factors..

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 23/03/2011 15:41

Mine is tracked, but like fluffy I'm in France. Midwife told me to make an effort to put weight on when I was well below the weight gain curve at 5 months, and then tutted when I managed to balloon 3 kilos between 6 and 7 months.

You don't necessarily gain weight in a perfect linear fashion...
