Hey I'm 12 weeks and struggling with being constantly hungry! Anyone got any foods ideas that could help with the hunger pains between meals?!
If I get hungry I feel really sick:(

brown bread sandwiches?

Baked potato wedges?

Chicken legs? Hard boiled eggs?

Are you underweight? It could be that you are hungry because you simply are not eating enough.

I keep granola bars at work because I get so hungry I start to feel sick and faint, and this comes on in about two seconds! When I feel it I have a granola bar/banana/handful of dried fruit/all of the above until it passes. It has to be something instant. Cake is also good sometimes Grin

Dried apricots- iron
Cashoo nuts - can get flavoured
Pop corn you make yourself
Make sure youre drinking enough

I teach secondary and eat 3 bananas a day - 2 before morning registration, 1 at 3pm. I can't function without them, only thing I've found to help with the mad hunger or nausea if I'm not eating fast enough!

spanky2 · 20/03/2011 19:13

A big bowl of porridge.

coastgirl · 20/03/2011 19:32

I'm a teacher too and have taken to snaffling handfuls of dried fruit at my desk! Luckily I teach secondary so I just eat in front of year 12 and 13 - if any of them comment I fix them with a "don't mess ith the pregnant lady" glare and they soon back down.

I find anything protein fills me up most effectively. Hard-boiled eggs, bits of cheese etc...

apricotears · 20/03/2011 21:30

I totally feel your pain! It does not matter what I eat or how much of it I have... I never ever feel satisfied. Have taken to sucking on ice cubes just to try and keep my mind off the constant eating!

MummyAbroad · 20/03/2011 22:05

I have stocked up on loads of individual bags of nuts and dried fruit, really handy and easy to keep in your handbag. Not so portable (but yummy!) are

mini babybels
crackers and cream cheese
cherry tomatoes

will have to stop that list right there as I have just made myself really hungry and now have to go and raid the fridge... Grin

oinkyoink · 20/03/2011 22:09

Bananas, bran flakes, muesli bars,

Don't forget to drink lots of water!!!!!!!!

notasausage · 21/03/2011 08:52

Oatcakes and peanut butter. Make them up as a sandwich and keep in a tub. Worked amazingly well for me. I make up 3 and if I eat them in the morning I'm not even starving at lunch time.

Porridge oats and pouring yoghurt was also a good one for energy (and for keeping your regular iyswim!). Totally transformed my early pregnancy energy levels. Not so great for eating in front of your class but have it at break times instead.

I'm in the same position (although my BMI is 28). I've definitely lost weight as my jeans are falling off my backside but I'm constantly hungry! I'm trying to focus on eating wholegrains so as to finally fill the bottomless pit that is my stomach. I'm also drinking lots of water (but not after 8pm so as not to need to wake up to pee in the night).

lilly13 · 21/03/2011 11:15

eat foods light in calories aka celery and blueberries. almonds prevent hunger very well, but eat in moderation

Melly19MummyToBe · 21/03/2011 11:30

Haha I love that "Don't mess with the pregnant lady" look :o

I find that fruit generally is a good thing for filling me up :)

daimbardiva · 21/03/2011 11:52

Ooh, liking the oatcakes and peanut suggestion...really hankering after one now actually, except I'm at work.

I keep cereal bars (Nature Valley ones) in all my bags, the car, my desk drawer for when those hunger pangs strike.

owlbooty · 21/03/2011 13:02

Oatcakes are brilliant. You can even get them in nice flavours (Nairn's I think)

Big bowl of porridge in the morning.

Hot cross buns without butter are also a good top-up snack that isn't too fatty.

Or you could do what I did the other week and eat 6 iced buns.

clarabella18 · 21/03/2011 13:22

Have a look at the GI diet for inspiration ( not for weightless obviously) all the stuff you can eat on that has a high GI which keeps you feeling fuller for longer. Alot of stuff has already been mentioned such as porridge, oat cakes and peanut butter etc.
It really does work!

CrazyAlien06 · 21/03/2011 14:49

Thanks guys, thing is I can't stand porridge, oats etc lol got some dried apricots this morning but they taste yucky! I do like sultanas so will grab some of them on way home. I can't stop eating bad things. I really don't want to put on weight, I've got flabby round tummy and have love handles :( have always been slim. Im heading to the gym tonight to get a programme sorted out so that I can go there to try to keep the love handles at bay!
