Hi ladies,

just looking for sympathy as I've spent the last 12 hours groaning with pain, vomiting, with the runs and stomach cramps.

Initially I thought it was labour, and I was thinking "oh god, please not on an empty stomach!!"

I don't think the food was necessarily 'off' (as my partner is fine) but I obviously reacted badly to it. Perhaps at this stage in the pregnancy I can't handle rich food? Or one particular ingredient? Either way, my body wanted it OUT!

All a bit intense just a wek from due date :( so I'm looking for sympathy...

Hi, I just wanted to offer you some much needed sympathy. I'm 39 weeks pregnant and can't imagine having food poisoning on top of feeling as crap as I do right now. Are you sure it's food poisoning and not the start of labour?

I only ask because I have days of d&v on and off for the last week, followed by day long irregular painful contractions, it's hideous. Keep yourself hydrated and chill out as much as you can. Also, big meals or rich food are a no-no for me, it leads to acid reflux and puking.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks to both of you for your sympathy!!

CoraBear it is interesting to hear that big/rich meals make you puke. I've only puked one other time in pregnancy, and that was after a big meal of fish & chips a couple of months ago. So I think it might be linked to oily meals.

BelgianBun My partner called midwife and NHS direct who seemed to agree with the food poisoning verdict, but they did worry me by asking if the baby was active. The baby has been very quiet BUT has moved enough times for me to think it is okay.

Gah, just trying to eat some plain, boiled rice now - a trick from childhood. Fingers crossed!

Thanks again :)

aww, I have synpathy!!

I'm 31 weeks and just recovering now from a bout of gastroenteritis :( Same as you, vomiting, runs, cramps, oh man it was hell. Couldn't keep down any water even.
Went to the doctor who perscribed some anti-emetics to stop the vomiting and hopefully the dehydration. They helped stop the throwing up, but continued to feel dreadful and runs didn't stop!

Today feeling dizzy and a bit sick, still haven't eaten yet really but hope to later!

I hope you are feeling better now as it really is dreadful, and you are so much more pregnant! It must have been really awful :(

Oh, you poor thing! I had food poisoning (v&d and cramps for 3 weeks!) at 8 wks pg with DD1 and it was hell! If keeping fluids down is hard try fruit lollies and see your doc if hydration continues to be a problem. Good luck.

Thanks all. It all kicked off on Friday night and now, Monday evening, I'm almost feeling my normal self again. And the baby has been wiggly :)

Henrathoon and msbossy I'm sending you belated sympathy!

Msbossy, I probably would have found it even harder at 8 weeks as I would have worried about the baby more. At this late stage, I kinda thought 'oh, it is full-term, it'll be fine'

Henrathoon I couldn't keep water down, either, for about 14 hours. I kept some food down after about 20 hours. Still taking it slowly on food, though. Still eating plain food in small amounts today.

Plain boiled rice (with a little butter, salt and pepper) is my childhood trick for keeping food down, but good luck with whatever works for you.
