I started it when we we started trying to conceive, and I'm almost thirteen weeks now. Two cups a day - initially to prevent miscarriage, now to increase blood flow to the uterus, later as a partum preparant - it is such an amazing herb!
Will report back in six months and let you know how the big event goes Wink

I started at 30-something weeks last time. Sorry to say this to you, but it didn't help me :(

Do you mean raspberry LEAF tea? It's not recommended until the final trimester and definately not in first 12 weeks as it can increase risk of miscarriage. 1st pregnancy i started it about 32 weeks with one cup a day going up to about 4 or 5 at term. Contractions started full on 2 mins apart - 8cm by time got to delivery suite and had baby hour later. Be prepared for intense contactions from the start - been told by mw to start it about 34 weeks this time round (one week to go!). Sister used it too and delivered 10 mins after walking into maternity - yikes! Of course no way of knowing if we would have had quick deliveries without it but worth a go

No it's okay - I'm a qualified herbalist!
One of the specific uses for raspberry leaf is to PREVENT miscarriage.
Raspberry leaf tea has been used for centuries as a uterine tonic. Its mode of action is to increase blood flow to the uterus, hence it being recommended as an aid for an effective labour. There is no possible way it can trigger miscarriage or contractions. Most herbs which have an abortofacient effect contain high levels of anthraquinones; raspberry leaf does not.
Look up any herbal medicine textbook and you will see there is no cause for concern.

I don't know how you would know if it had worked. It's supposed to strengthen the uterus in preparation for pushing but you don't know what your 2nd stage would be without it.

I drank it because I like it. I drink it when non-pg too. I had an 8hr second stage but a malpositioned baby and eventual emcs. Couldn't tell you if it strengthened my uterus at all. Grin

I have started having one/two cups a day from 32 weeks, am 34 weeks at the mo. Under no illusions though that it brings on labour- simply not possible!...BUT as other posters have said and our herbalist,Molybdenum, it's suppose to be a good aid for stregthening the uterus...Smile Can't be bad..

Typo...strengthening..Blush

Himalaya · 18/03/2011 20:29

I don't think there is convincincing evidence that it works at all....www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19880082
