Hi,

I haven't a clue which one to get. What have you bought/would recommend?

Many Thanks

none of them. get a support / seat that goes in the big bath. we hardly used ours, too bulky to move about, tricky to fill and empty. One of those things you think you need but really don't.

PrettyCandles · 16/03/2011 12:02

The simplest and cheapest. Don't bother with special shaping, it jus gets in the way. Also don't bother with the sort that has the bath under a flip-up table, because they are invariably too low (unless you and OH are small). Those stands are useful for storing the bath, though. A changing stand is useful.

Get a cheap, simple baby bath, and a padded kneeler, the sort gardeners use. Put the baby bath in your tub and fill it brimful - none of this nonsense about bathing a baby in 2" of tepid water! A newborn is far more relaxed in a deep warm bath.

My top tip would be to look a folding or inflatable ones. We only used the baby bath for a few weeks (about 3 really!) and then he started in the big bath as it was much easier, but the travel one is v useful when we go away or when baby is at Granma's as she doesn't trust herself with him in the big bath!!

Its the sink for me !! I washed both of mine in the sink in a bowl until they were old enough to get in with me Grin

We had a baby bath but used it once. It was such a faff filling it and bending over, it was easier to stick them in the sink tbh Blush

Another vote for the tummy tub here!

PipCarrier · 16/03/2011 12:32

I second the tummy tub, absolutely fab.

JulesJules · 16/03/2011 12:37

I wouldn't get one at all. You really don't need it.

I used a cheap washing up bowl (a new oneGrin) - smaller, lighter, cheaper - until the babies got too big and moved to the bathroom where I used a small bath support thing.

thefurryone · 16/03/2011 13:01

I'm planning on bathing my baby in the sink as I figured that I wouldn't need to do any bending over or kneeling down on a hard tile floor, also means I won't have to find anywhere to store a baby bath in my tiny bathroom.

freckleye · 16/03/2011 13:06

Definitely waste of money and space. Get a towelling support (about a fiver from Mothercare) last lots longer age wise and can use it in the future with siblings in bath at same time

Spend as little as possble!! Pick one up second-hand at your local NCT Sale. You really won't be using it for long.

humanfraggle · 16/03/2011 13:40

None

We bought one from Toys R Us and used it once. It's not so bad when you're using it, but it was a pain in the bum trying to move it to empty it afterwards!

We used our bath, but it took both of us to hold the slippery little bugger her, so we got a bath support (like a bouncy chair but specially for the bath, I can't remember what they're called but you can get them at Mothercare for about £12 I think, we got ours for a fiver from a nearly new sale) - which you can use until the baby can sit up on their own. It was fab and I was happy to bath her on my own.

We're now using a 'Safety First Bath Swivel Seat', which is absolutely brilliant, she can sit and happily splash her legs and arms but sit safely.

diyqueen · 16/03/2011 16:15

We've bought a tubtrug - like you use in the garden! - so it can be recycled as a toy basket or garden trug when its life as a baby bath is over. We only have a shower, no bath, so needed something.

HipHopopotomus · 16/03/2011 16:47

Tummy Tubs are brilliant!!!

nitnatnaboo · 16/03/2011 16:51

Don't bother. Especially not one from Tescos. The plug can be kicked out by an enthusiastic baby. You will not have enough hands/time to realise what's going on, hold floppy headed baby steady, locate the plug and stick it back in. Cue water through the ceiling. Grin. Not bothering this time round.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/03/2011 16:52

Another vote for Tummy Tub. Just don't let DH have the TV on while he bathes your 2 week old LO in it as their head will slip under the water as he watches the news.......

mustdash · 16/03/2011 16:54

Another Tummy Tub lover here, but if you want to save some money, a garden trug does sound like a really good alternative.

RachelHRD · 16/03/2011 16:59

Ikea one - very sturdy, cheap and can use after as a washing basket.

MrsBloomingTroll · 16/03/2011 17:13

Again, I think this is one of those decisions that has to be part-based on trial and error and personal preference.

If only there were a company that let you try-before-you-buy with baby stuff!

We tried a bath support but DD was very tiny and we ended up climbing into a bath with her (bathed her very infrequently at first).

When she developed colic after an illness, we switched to baths every day as part of the plan to ease her colic, and the tummy tub was great for that, and caught the inevitable poo release nicely! (Sorry, TMI!)

I was sceptical about the tummy tub because if looks like a glorified bucket for the money.

CointreauVersial · 16/03/2011 18:03

Like the tub-trug idea! Wish I'd thought of that.

canthandlethisanymore · 16/03/2011 18:10

We bought a baby bath support from mamas and papas; still use it now at 5 months although he's getting a bit big for it now! Keeps both hands free for washing baby too.

expectingno3 · 16/03/2011 18:30

A toweling 'ski slope' type support from John Lewis, Mothercare or the like for around £10.00, and Ikea's baby bath - it is, from what I can find, the only bath that will fit the support in - all others are just too slim. The support will be the best tenner you have ever spent.

spidookly · 16/03/2011 18:33

IKEA baby bath for a fiver

those supports for the big bath sound good, although mostly I fulfilled that function for DD2.

trixie123 · 16/03/2011 18:36

meant to say- the easiest thing is to get in the big bath with them - saves all the bending over. one of us did that virtually every night and now DS is 19m it is him and daddy's special time together every day
