I am actually just fed up with my inability to fix this problem and the stress of this pressure on myself is probabaly making the sickness worse...I am not a vomiter but the all day unyielding nausea exacerbated by smell, movement, noise, anticipating eating, smelling any cooked food is just getting me down...I cant live like this! Have tried ginger, lemon, sea bands, vitamin B, fresh fruits, healthy diet, unhealthy diet...NOTHING is working...have a toddler to take care of and the pressure of having to carry on as normal is killing me...PLEASE if anyone has ANY suggestions for any remedies that I have not yet mentioned PLEASE let me know of them...

Thanks

Hello
Im 14 weeks and have been very sick since 5+6. Hyperemis from 7 weeks, and still pretty sick now, even with 3 anti-sick tabs a day

I have been having accupuncture.... not sure if it did much the 1st 2 sessions... perhaps and afternoon ok 1st and maybe a whole day "not feeling like death" the next.
For about 4 weeks not i have been having accupuncture, and then they place these semi permenant needle plaster things into my wrists (they dont hurt) they stay in for about 4 days (but i leave them 5 days)

These are working much better and definitley give me some relief.. much more so than the sea bands that id been wearing 24/7 for about a month before we tried this.

BTW i found all the wives tales of ginger / little and often / have a plain biscuit didnt help for more than a few days, and those things now actually make me sick!

4 weeks now

BackwardsInHighHeels · 16/03/2011 11:38

I completely feel your pain. I was exactly the same from week 5 to the weekend (11 weeks).

Get to your Doctor and don't leave until he gives you some anti-nausea drugs (not anti-sickness - there's a difference).

I know everyone says it'll pass and that it's not a helpful thing to hear, but if it's getting you down this much while you're waiting, you really should get some help with it.

I'm feeling extremely lucky that my nausea seems to be lifting in that I'm mostly nausea free with occasional patches rather than the other way round now, but this time last week I was really at the end of my tether.

Take care of yourself and don't stress too much.

ethelina · 16/03/2011 11:40

The only thing that worked for me was chewing gum. Constantly. 10 sticks a day.

I hate chewing gum normally.

lxoc · 16/03/2011 11:49

Thanks will look into acupunture/pressure any recs where to go Nannyl?

Bacwards...am a little anti meds at this time in spite of my pain as it has taken me so long to get to this point just dont want anything to poss jeopardise...but will kee in mind if all else fails...am just at 10+2 so who knows maybe next week will have less?

ethelina...i am staying away from food stuffs as unfortunately what works one day tends to become enemy number one the next! Just anticipating what will help me causes more nausea...i think i am sick in the head as much as tummy...but thanks

I totally understand being anti-meds - I was too (1st pg, mum had 7 miscarriages - totally paranoid and scared) and at 10+2 I'd just had enough. I went to my doc and spent the entire morning in the surgery (the place is a farce) and came away with buccastem. In the end, I only took 2 doses, one that day and one the next, and the day after it started to lift.

I only took the meds when it was completely unbearable (as in, couldn't move my head without thinking I was going to puke), but I think perhaps it helped me to know that I had something which would control it.

The things I took which helped a little were innocent fruit tubes, dole fruit jellies (peach and raspberry) and cheddars biscuits. With occasional salt and vinegar crisps. I also sometimes had sainsburys tubs of mixed veg on their own as I couldn't face meat at all.

Really hope you start to feel better soon.

MummyAbroad · 16/03/2011 15:45

Hi lxoc, I could have written your post except for the fact that I am only 6+5.

The only home remedies you didnt mention that I have tried are olives (dries your saliva - supposed to work better if you eat as soon as you feel the nausea coming on) It worked for a couple of days and now I am sick of them.

and fizzy drinks - the burping feels nice, but I keep have to change flavours as whatever I get used to starts to make me feel more sick.

The only thing that really works is going to sleep, but I have a toddler too, so thats mostly not an option.

I have been through this twice before - once with DS, suffered through and it lifted at 12/13 weeks, and another time it turned into full on vomiting/HG and I got hospitalised. Sadly that pregnancy ended in mc at 14 weeks (not related to HG/hospitilisation, I have Ashermans) Like you, I am more freaked out by the anticipation of how long this could go on for or it getting worse

The idea of it going on for another 6 weeks is just unbearable and I am going to ask my doc for meds today. I hope they have something decent to offer me!! (I am in Costa Rica)

hope you feel better soon

nitnatnaboo · 16/03/2011 17:07

Another HG sufferer here. Still going at 22 weeks. Nausea is horrible and soul destroying. Cyclizine has worked really well for me to stop the nausea. (It doesn't stop vomiting for me). Do you have anyone who could step in and help with childcare for what will (hopefully )only be a few weeks?

Lying down completely still in a dark quiet room when you have someone else to look after your LO may help, especially if you normally get motion sickness when not pg.

You could try only eating cold foods to avoid smells - sandwiches, plain or salt n vinegar crisps, grapefruit, melon, yoghurt, museli + fruit. Get someone else to prepare sandwiches for you - I couldnt go in the kitchen for weeks and even when improving have made myself sick preparing sandwiches.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions looks like i will have to reconsider meds and have a conversation with my GP...

@Backwards....thanks have taken all your suggestions on board and will seriously think about meds...have had an innocence smoothie today and was quite refreshing...had never tried before so thanks for the suggestion...x

@Mummyabroad...what a dreadful time you have had of it all...hope that you have some find some respite soon...have also done fizzy drinks and i now feel sick just thinking of them...thanks for suggestion

@nitnat..omg such a long time to feel so bad i feel for you...how awful...i had my cleaner step in as nanny today and it worked fabulously but that will only be once a week....I dont cook at all at the moment and yes i eat mostly cold food...anything else is too overwhelming and then causes nausea...

Good luck to everyone else and thanks for taking the time to reply.....x

All day nausea is awful! I feel your pain, as I am 12 weeks with DC2 and also have a toddler to look after.
What helped for me was dry crackers. And sushi (the veg stuff if you don't want to have raw fish) - something about the saltiness and freshness really helped. I would go to m&s nearly every day to get some.
Also, will you DC let you lie down and play with them? Some days I would lie on the rug and let her play with her toys around me, but at least I could sort of get a rest.
Nausea has passed for me now, hopefully it will soon for you.
Good luck!

jellyhead188 · 16/03/2011 21:39

oh bless you - I was just like that with my second - sipping icy water with lemon helped a bit - but to be honest you just have to live with it until it goes - mine went about 11/12 weeks - I had to have my DC1 childminded as I just couldn't cope with it - you have my sympathies as its awful xxx

skewiff · 16/03/2011 21:48

Yes,

I had this too. Second pregnancy for me. I've got a just 4 year old.

I'm 33 weeks now and feeling the best I've felt during the whole of this pregnancy.

They found out I was low in iron and actually I think I may well have been right from the beginning of the pregnancy. Since taking something called floradix I have felt so so much more full of energy and better in myself. I think the sickness at the beginning was alot to do with tiredness.

Not sure - but you could start taking floradix now (its totally safe and sold over the counter) - to see if extra iron helps ...

MummyAbroad · 17/03/2011 16:46

I got some medication - 25 mg famodil (mexclezina) I think its made things better but its hard to tell. Still feeling nausea and now very sleepy to boot. Hmm

QuickLookBusy · 17/03/2011 16:55

Oh you poor thing, I had all day nausea with both of mine.

As you are 10 weeks I expect it will ease soon, just keep thinking that!

The thing that worked for me, was eating little amounts often-no big meals. Also I sucked sweets, mint humbugs were my fav. Just that bit of sugar lifted the edge off the nausea. I know it doesnt sound very good for the teeth but if its only for another week or so, you could give it a try.

mathanxiety · 17/03/2011 16:55

I had this too -- couldn't even think about going out to buy food or even putting a toothbrush into my mouth. Opening the fridge sent me gagging to the bathroom. The DCs and I spent days on end watching tv. I threw 'carrying on as if everything was normal' out the window. No doctor would give me anything as I was in the US where they were still very spooked by Thalidimide. I was on prenatal vitamin + iron supplements. Waiting it out was he only thing that worked. Sad
