Has anyone had a private gender scan at 16/17 weeks and how accurate do you think it is??

I went to BabyBond for a scan at 16 weeks. The sonographer said he thought it looked like a boy (I could def see something there between the legs too) but he also said sometimes its not too clear at 16 weeks so could we come back in a week to confirm.
I didnt really get why we needed to go back as it seemed clear to me, but went back at 17 weeks as requested.
At the second scan the same sonographer said it is a girl! Apparently the 'something' we could see at 16 weeks was swelling of the girl bits due to hormones.

I'm not sure whether to be convinced or not!! A couple of people have said 'well he thought it was a boy last week, how can he be sure this week that its a girl, it might be different again next time' etc

Is it a common thing to see the swelling of girls bits?
How accurate are these gender scans do you think?

I had one with babybond at 17 weeks with DS, and they were right, and we had one at 16+1 with this baby, and they've said she's a girl, which has been backed up by nhs at 20 weeks, and 4d scan at 26 weeks.

My local private scanning clinic won't do them until 20 weeks because they say it is more accurate then.

One of the hospitals here won't tell you the sex at the 20 wek scan so private sexing scans are quite popular.

Just realised that this is a really old thread Confused

I had one at 16 weeks which said girl, my anatomy scan at 20 weeks said clearly a girl, 99.9%
18 weeks ish until I find out for sure

i would say pretty accurate to be honest when i was preg with my first 3 children it was normal to have the anatomy scan at 16 weeks and i was told on each of those scans the sex of my children all of which were correct. Smile

Had one at 16 weeks and they said clearly girl (3white lines), then had 20 nhs scan and asked but didn't mention prior scan and also told girl. Hope so as I've gone floral crazy

I had a private scan this time (usually just wait til 20weeks but went private as as surprise for my dad) they said I was having a boy, I'll find out in a few week what my anomaly scan shows and confirm it.

However, I'm 99.9% it's a boy from the way baby was fronting the screen Grin.

Just realised it's an old thread. I really wish MNHQ would put the zombie alert back on the mobile version!!

I've had 2 gender scans at baby bond and they were right both times. (2 girls.)

I know a few friends who have been there and had it accurately predicted too.

So for me 100% Grin

@SimmyCZ hey just wondering what you had?

AJMMS · 01/04/2023 12:18

I had a private gender scan bang on 16 weeks and a) it looked pretty obvious (boy); b) the place says it's 99% accurate; c) my midwife confirmed that these things are very rarely wrong.
It depends on the baby's position etc (what you can see) but if visible I'd be confident in the result.
