Double Buggy or Buggy Board?

BorgLady · 15/03/2011 15:55

My DS will be 3.1 when his new brother or sister arrives. He is a complete nightmare when on reins or walking on his own, he lies down in the road, hangs off his reins and is generally a complete pain in the arse!

I have given up taking him anywhere walking at the moment, mainly because I am so knackered through being pregnant that I haven't got the energy to do the inevitable carrying/dragging routine.

Howver I am really not keen on the idea of a double buggy, mainly because of the bulk and also because I'd like DC2 to have a nice lie-flat, parent facing pram. It also seems like a bit of a waste of money because surely DS won't be pushchair bound for much longer?

Just wondering if anyone else's kids have been like this and then grown out of it along with the terrible twos.

How hard is it to keep a kid on a buggy board under control?

Thanks!

I know of a parent facing double buggy here but at that age I would go for a buggy board.

PrincessScrumpy · 15/03/2011 16:27

I would go for a buggy board and firm discipline - easy for me to say, dd hasn't been in a pushchair since 2.5 as she's a fab walker (I appreciate that's not the norm).

I'm expecting twins so have to go down the double buggy route and dd will just walk. She'll be 3.5 when they're born but I won't have a buggy board as she doesn't need it and I can put a baby in a sling if she was ill and needed to go in the buggy.

skydance · 15/03/2011 16:33

I'd go for a buggy board, I found with mine they're quite easy to control on the board, and if they ran off when walking I would put them straight back on the board.

I also have a wrist strap hanging on the side of the pram, I don't actually put it on (although of course if he was being difficult I could) but I find that DS2 likes to hold onto it whilst walking along.

You can get fold up seats which clip onto your existing buggy (like a buggy board but you can strap them down!) sorry I don't have any links (am on my phone)

I think i posted in the products/pushchairs area? I've kinda given up as I was unable to find any which fitted my quinny Sad am planning to use sling for baby to begin with & see how we get on (DD will be 2.5)

Do let me know if you stumble across anything which fits a quinny buzz!!

Do they do Sit'n'Stands in the UK??

I like these two:
www.amazon.com/Joovy-Caboose-Ultralight-Stroller-Black/dp/B003H4QFRS/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1300207706&sr=8-7

www.amazon.com/Joovy-Caboose-Tandem-Stroller-Black/dp/B0043YVTPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1300207861&sr=1-1

With the ergo you can put a car seat on the handlebars facing you. (officially, you can do this unofficially with the ultralight too, but its not the recommended way of using the car seat)

Both have little steps for standing (like being on a board) and also a little seat for when they are more tired - they have seat belts on the seat so you can strap them in and they cant run away.

how long have you got til your baby is due? cos he may improve between now and then? i would be reluctant to get double buggy for a child of that age as he wont be likely in it that long. buggy board should be okay i think
i have a ds going to be 3.2 when new baby is born but as thats dc3 he is just going to have to walk, wont be a space for him in the buggy and i dont think buggy board even fits on the double, so he will have to cope. the more they practise they do get better, even now he is much better than he was and still few more months to go, so maybe just keep practising your ds more with walking over the summer and hopefully will be alright

Crawling I would just like to say thank you! I clicked on your link just out of nosiness really. We were going to get an icandy and that was it, but it didn't really suit our needs but the Britax is perfect! Big thank you, I had never heard of this buggy before.

Crawling · 16/03/2011 09:02

Thats ok I found it because I need a double and it was the only one that ticked all the boxes, it is quite new so not many people are aware of it, very glad to help Smile

missnevermind · 16/03/2011 09:09

Pipplin Tesco seems to have a very good deal on it [http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.901-8167.aspx?utm_source=GoogleShopping&utm_medium=GSF_NormalFeed&utm_campaign=GSF_TescoDirect&utm_content=901-8167]

missnevermind · 16/03/2011 09:10

Um
here
Thats better sorry

missnevermind · 16/03/2011 09:12

Personally I am going for the Big pram and baby dan pram seat this time, and then a buggy board as DS3 will be 2.6 when this one arrives.

clouiseg · 16/03/2011 10:42

DD will be 2.2 when dc4 arrives so we have bought a buggy board as she's a good walker. However, we will be taking a kari-me sling out for the baby just in case our toddler is tired/throwing a paddy Grin. Good luck!

pipplin · 16/03/2011 11:41

Whoah that is good missnevermind I have emailed the link to DP for him to sort Grin

reallygrumpy · 16/03/2011 12:51

My DD will be 3.6 when DC2 arrives and I'm not even planning to get a buggy board (mean mother emoticon) because I think she's old enough to walk and if we're going any distance or need to go get somewhere in a hurry she'll use her scooter

borglady - I'm sure your DC will get better, has he got a scooter? I find it's much easier to get DD to use her scooter to go to the shops etc that to get her to walk and when I've got 2 it'll be easy to hang the scooter across the pushchair handles when she's not using it. Only think is they need to be a bit traffic aware, stop to cross roads etc

Crawling · 16/03/2011 13:01

I think it also depends on how much walking you do, my DD will be 2.4 when no 3 comes but I do at least 2 hours walking a day mostly up hill and a lot of narrow areas, busy roads so really need a double, I would not if she was 3 though, I would do a sling for if she gets tired.

jimmijam · 16/03/2011 13:53

hiya, havent read all of this thread, but here's what we did-
when dd was still little (there's a 17month age gap) we got a double buggy (used from ebay for about £40)
when dd was walking most places we went back 2 using maclaren single stroller with buggy board
now she's 4 1/2 but ds's a nightmare for not wanting 2 walk where you're going etc so he's still in single buggy
baby #3 due september, will put new baby in single puschair and ds can use buggy board-he likes trying it out and i figured he can't stay in a puschair forever
i'm sure whatever choice u make it will b the right 1.
1 tip tho -DONT get a litaf seat 2 go-feels so flimsy compared 2 lascal buggy board. seat 2 go went straight back 2 the shop!

iskra · 16/03/2011 15:55

My DD will be 3.3 when no. 2 arrives. We do a lot of walking but I figure that I will do a combo of single pushchair/buggy board/sling/scooter/walking.

neverlookback · 16/03/2011 21:06

not read all but google "bibi strolli" or bibi rider" a lady at school has one it looks brilliant, like a little bicycle seat and handles that fixes on side of pram so not directly in front of your feet like a buggy board and it has a lap belt, i got a buggy board with my dd when she was 3 but i struggles sometimes as she was tired of standing up and a rubbish walker.
