Angelcare baby movement sensor with moses basket?

We have decided to go for the Angelcare system (as I'm sure I will be the type of mum to prod the baby to make sure it is breathing...).

Anyhow, we're planning on having the baby in a Moses basket for the first couple of months and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using the movement sensor in one? Another forum mentioned putting plywood in the basket under the mattress - but seeing as though the mattress in a Moses basket isn't exactly thick that seems rather barbaric.

My friend did exactly this.

It certainly isn't barbaric!

On the instructions it states you can use it in a Moses basket without the wood, that's what I'm doing now and I'm so glad I have it.

We had no problems using it in our moses basket, or our cot bed without the wood underneath.

We didn't bother with anything in the Moses basket. In the cot bed we used a collapsed banana box Blush

I've just bought one (half price in argos - movement only monitor) and it says it can be used in moses basket

Fabulous. Thanks for the advice! I love Mumsnet for things like this.

Hi girls, I was interested in this as well, is this used as well as a normal baby monitor or does it replace it? And what is the age span you can use it for?

PipCarrier · 15/03/2011 12:43

If you get the right one then it does sound and movement newmumtb.

We only used the movement part until about 8 months because when they start moving around their cot a lot during the night, you get false alarms when they move too far away from the sensor pad. All you do is turn the sensor off then and just carry on using the sound part of the monitor.

Hope that helps?

Brilliant PipCarrier, thats exactly what I wanted to know :) DH thinks i'm a paranoid pregnant lady so it'll be easier to justify getting it if I can use it as a normal sound monitor afterwards :) One of his siblings unfortinately died with cot death and I've been worried about this ever since we met, even though I know is not genetic..

Oh sorry to hear that newmumtb - I'm sure that makes it even more justifiable.

I actually wasn't a paranoid mum-to-be first time round, I just bought it because it was on offer and only about £10 more than a decent sound monitor so just thought I may as well. But as it turned out my little boy had terrible reflux and the only way he could sleep for more than an hour was to sleep on his tummy and having this monitor was invaluable then as it gave me extra peace of mind.
