Waterproof sheet for mattress

After being told at my scan that I'm carrying alot of extra fluid, and my friend telling me about when her waters broke in bed, I'm thinking that perhaps I should get some kind of waterproof sheet for our bed! Any suggestions on where I could get one from?

Jojo Maman Bebe do some small protective mats here.

My DD had one for when she was potty training, and I borrowed it when I was very pg with DC2. I found it didn't make me uncomfortably hot like some mattress protectors that cover the whole mattress.

I've no idea if it would have worked for my waters breaking, as they didn't break in bed - but it has successfully handled many of my DCs bedwetting incidents.

Plus side is that you can hang on to it and use it for your DC when potty training too!

I've been trying to get this one from M&S for nearly a month but they never have doubles in stock.

My mum was a MW and she says they're great, not just in case your waters go but also because of leaking milk afterwards. Especially if you bf in bed and then can't be bothered to put a bra and pads on before going back to sleep.

Dunelm or other linen-type shops. I'd recommend Hippychick mattress protectors www.hippychick.com/index.cfm/children/Products.List/category_id/78/subject/flat_sheet_mattress_protectors as when you're finished with them, you can use them in the cot and later a bed. I'm using mine three years on - they were great on the sofas during potty training too Wink

Hopefully though your waters won't break in bed but always good to be prepared. Disposable change mats are also good to have for the car if you're planning on travelling to hospital. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy Smile

I got a waterproof mattress protector from Marks and Spencer and it doesn't have that horrible plastic layer that makes you sweaty. It was #25 for a double. My waters broke on the toilet!

ooh it was happycamel's one!

Thank-you so much for your replies ladies, I'll get one ordered tonight! Tis a brilliant idea to get one we can use when potty training DD, I have that to look forward to in the summer!

Last time my waters broke as I got out of bed, so we only had to Vax the carpet, how on earth would you get a mattress clean/dry?!

Great thread bessie26! I too have had this worry & have recently removed the electric blanket from our bed! Grin

Just to let you know, I ordered a single flat sheet from hippychick so I can put it on DDs bed afterwards. I ordered it wed lunchtime, had an email to say it had been dispatched thur & it arrived fri. It's really nice, feels like a kind of thick sheet/thin blanket, not plasticy at all. Will let you know what happens if my waters break on it! (I am sooo hoping mine go on the loo like cookies!)
