"Spotting" at 7 weeks, normal?? TMI alert, sorry!

Last night when I went to bed, I noticed some brownish discharge, had a shower and noticed there was quite a bit of it, pretty much what I tend to get in the last day or so of af's visit. Sorry, that was the TMI bit! I've also been getting poking/pulling feelings, not painful but uncomfortable, and can't remember if it's normal or I'm just being paranoid!

I don't remember having it before, although DH seems to think I did, was worried, spoke to either GP or Midwife and they said it was normal (DS is now 3 Grin)

I'm in 2 minds whether to wait a few days and see what happens (it's not red blood so I'm guessing that's a good sign??) or to ring the docs today for telephone consultation and see what they think. WWYD?

I'm not registered with the midwife yet as not quite 7 weeks, so I thought it was a bit early.

I had the same at 5,6,7 weeks, plus some pale pink spotting at 7w. Was v concerned as I didn't have this when pregnant with DD.

I posted on here and other people had experienced the same, which reassured me. As I had no pain or red blood I didn't take it any further. Had my first MW appt at 7+3 and she said the first was probably from implantation bleeding and as long as there is no pain or bright red blood it should be fine - hope this reassures you.

BTW it might be worth registering with your MW now even though it's early days - means you will have her details for any other concerns and also means you can get your scan etc booked now. Depending on the area it can be really busy so the earlier you book the more appointments will be left!

I had some at 7 and 9 wks and had a good scan at 12 weeks. I wouldnt worry too much.

ShowOfHands · 14/03/2011 13:11

It's not 'normal', no but it's really common and happens for lots of reasons. Brown blood is old blood and they'll advise you to monitor it and see somebody if it turns red, you experience pain or become unwell.

I think something like 40% of people spot in the first trimester.

Thanks everyone, I'll ring the surgery for a MW appointment and go from there. It was looking mor reddish brown just now, but still not bright red blood, IYKWIM?
And no pain really, other than poking/pulling and discomfort.

Just to add to that, even if it does turn bright red, it is not necessarily a cause for panic. I had bright red at 7 weeks with DD, and she was absolutely fine. (Though I did absolutely panic.)

Am now 6 weeks with second and having the same poking/pulling you describe with possible spotting (you'd need a pantone colour chart to be sure). Very reassured by what everyone's saying!

Probably an implantation bleed. If there's no pain I wouldn't worry about it, there's nothing that could really be done at 7 weeks for you anyway (not making light of being scared, had a m/c at 8 weeks myself).

I bled for about 4 days at 6 weeks, enought to make me think it was a period and not test for another couple of weeks. It turns out it was the implantation bleed.

The poking and pulling is a good sign, it's your uterus expanding.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 14/03/2011 15:54

Thanks for that happycamel that's really reassuring. This is looking more like a period now (seems to have got more throughout the day, but still reddish brown) I've never had this before, and no experience of m/c either so I'm totally clueless and trying hard not to worry! DH should be home soon, might ring the surgery when he gets back, just in case.

well I spoke to the MW and have been booked at EPAU on Weds Confused
To those who have experienced bleeding, did you have clots in the bleeds?
I told MW I'd passed a clot and she said it was worrying, but not so much so that I shouldn't wait for EPAU appointment. I'm hoping it'll be ok, but can't help feeling a bit anxious Sad

I'm sorry you're going through this. Some women have clots and all is fine, some have clots and it isn't. I know Weds seems an age away but just get through it however you can.

Time will make little difference. I can't think of a none harsh way to say it other than the pregnancy will succeed or not and if it's bad news on Weds (I hope it isn't, I really do), the fact that you waited a couple of days for a scan did NOT cause it.

I'll be thinking of you.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 14/03/2011 21:34

Thanks SoH. FWIW, I didn't see it as harsh - I think that's how I'll get through the next day or so (and beyond if it's bad news).

Thank you for your thoughts, I will update if its good news, but probably best to move across to the appropriate board if not Smile
