well if you wear pyjamas you might have difficulty getting the baby out Wink

a nightie is a good option, or a big old t-shirt or something.
1 will be fine i should think.

i had a cheapy one for my first labour thinking it would get manky but it came out without a mark on it.
second and third times i wore nothing

Second the nighty. However I did have a pair of cheap pyjama bottoms to wear underneath for early labour to spare the midwives my hairy legs. Once in labour, do you think I cared who saw my hairy legs?

My nighty stayed surprisingly clean too.

mid thigh length nightie for me.
Mine stayed clean too Smile.

Big Tshirts just weren't quite long enough.

I found that I had to be naked once in labour with all my 3 - Couldn't bear anything touching my skin.

Did take nighties though, just never got round to putting them on Blush.

depends on your view point pj's are nice early on but nightie or big T easier once labour properly under way. If you don't want to be completely naked maybe take a couple nothing worse than a damp sweaty nightie if you've been wearing it for a while! Nice to have a clean one to put on afterwards as well.

Personally I found i wore less and less as labour progressed until i was completely naked and was much happier like that but it was a very hot day and hot stuffy hospital room.

Have options you never know but at the time it'll probably not even cross your mind what you are wearing.

important you feel comfortable, and depends alot on environment in hospital and time of year. I've laboured in the freezing cold where dh kept his coat on for the duration as they couldn't get the air con off!! and in July when it was hot.

I prefer an old t-shirt personally then some nice comfy pj's to put on after.

I got some cheap nighties from Peacocks that also button down the front following recommendations on here and from people I know in 'real life'. I can throw them away afterwards if necessary or keep them if they survive the experience. I was wondering about pyjamas for the earlier part of labour before going to hospital as they are comfortable. One Born Every Minute is my only reference guide for such things and the women on there all seem to turn up at the hospital immaculately dressed, but then they know they are going to be on TV, and I'm guessing I won't care what I'm wearing by that point.

I've got one of these ready for the hospital bag: www.nctshop.co.uk/Womama-Organic-Birthing-Wrap-Ocean-Blue/productinfo/2507BL/

I know it's expensive, but it was my gift from DH for our second wedding anniversary (the traditional gift is cotton), so I feel it was justified!

I second the Peacocks nighties I wore mine all through labour. I also took PJs for afterwards because I didn't want to be padding round the ward in just a nightie and exposing my swollen hairy legs to all.

MrsVidic · 13/03/2011 13:49

Another vote for peacocks! The button down is great for breastfeeding.

I'd also get another cheap one a few sizes smaller for after the birth when you've got cleaned up! Hospital wards are baking and you will loose a lot of blood, so you way get overspill on pjs while you sleep!

Tarlia · 13/03/2011 18:26

Sounds like I'm opposite to the norm - I got covered in blood as my vein bled out, so def suggest something either black or old and baggy. And have mostly only spotted PP so no over 'spill' on to my pjs. I'm usually really shy when it comes to my body, but I ended up totally naked at the end and didn't care who was in the room!

I suggest 2 tshirts/nighties for labour and two pjs/nighties (with buttons if breast feeding) for the ward.

I had 2 nighties last time, one (dark one) for giving birth in, another one (I got a 2 pack from mothercare) to wear once I'd had a bath. This time I've also got myself a lightweight dressing gown incase I have visitors & want to feel a bit more covered up.
