Why do I feel so wiped out so quickly?

I'm 15 weeks and had a tough first trimester with hyperemesis and a toddler to look after.

The sickness has pretty much gone now, but I can't seem to do anything without feeling wiped out and out of breath. I went to the supermarket with my husband for a very few things and I was exhausted by the time we came out.

Going upstairs leaves me out of breath and DH wants us to take the bus into town tomorrow with DS in his pushchair. I just don't think I'll make it!

I remember feeling this way when I was pregnant with DS but no one else I know gets wiped out like this. He was a big baby and I had a huge placenta so
I put it down to that after he was born. Am I just being a bit wet? I get the feeling DH and my mum think I should be a bit fitter but how can I start exercising when I get knackered walking down the road? I'm not overweight and I lost a stone with the hyperemesis btw.

How do people carry on normal lives and jobs while pregnant? I feel as though I've got permanent flu.

Sorry to hear you are feeling so worn out BorgLady. I think you should see your GP, it could just be a cold. I am feeling exactly the same as you at the moment, but almost everyone I know has a cold at the moment. I have 2 DD's aged 3 and 4, and I have almost no energy this time round. I am 11+6 currently. I got out of puff walking from my bedroom to the bathroom, and am not over weight at all.

I found my second pregnancy much more physically demanding than my first. I think the fact that you have to work on a toddlers timetable and routine is hard work. With 1st pregnanacy you are able to rest of a night and stop for half an hour if you needed to - doesn't work that was when there is a small child to care for.

You aren't being wet. Dont worry about what others think, you are the one who has a new person growing inside you. Your baby is now fully developed organ wise so now baby is having a massive growth spurt - that zaps your energy too!

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks you should start getting your energy back. For now, just take it easy and see your GP for a bit of support and advice, even just to stop people from suggesting this is not right at your stage of pregnancy.

Good luck to you Smile

Also just to add, after such an awful first trimester, it's normal to be lacking energy from sickness whilst trying to grow your baby.

It will take time to get your energy back x

Also I would suggest getting your iron levels checked - felt exactly how you described and turned out my irons levels were low, felt a lot better after taking supplements although took a couple of weeks to kick in.

anaemia?

Hi I'm 14 + 3 and also have a toddler. I was feeling like this until
V recently: dizzy, sick, headachey and completely stone tired as though I was just dragging my body around all day, not taking an interest in anything or anyone because I just didnt have the energy.

I've been taking iron tablets as my blood tests showed anaemia and am starting to feel a little better. Apparently it's v common when you have two pregnancies close together, especially within two years, which I am doing. Never experienced anything like it with my first - honestly thought I was dying! Just as I felt I couldn't carry on, the tiredness turned a corner and I have been really well for the last few days so get it checked out, hope all is well.

I'd put money on it being another boy. Being pregnant with the DS's did exactly the same to me Grin total wipeout!

Thanks everyone, I feel a bit less like a freak. Everyone in my circle of friends seems to carry on as normal while pregnant, even a mate who had twins recently was walking around town and taking her older boy to the zoo etc!

You may be onto something, 4paws, as I mentioned in my first post, my DS was a big baby and is still big and very energetic. My DH is a big fit bloke who is twice my size and has boundless energy, whereas I am quite petite and more of a bookworm. Starting to think maybe I should have had kids with the bloke from the Mr Muscle ads! I wouldn't be surprised if it's another boy at all, and if it's a girl, she'll probably be Xena Warrior Princess.

I have to see the midwife for an antenatal next week, I'll talk to her about it and maybe get myself a blood test. I had one for breathlessness in my forst preg and it wasn't anemia though so I doubt I'll get away with it that easily.

I'm a little gutted, because we had planned three kids, but I really don't want to do this again!

I feel exactly the same at 21 weeks. It's just horrible. I'm taking a liquid iron supplement as I had low iron reserves at my 8 week bloods.
I feel shocking, think I may be going to see the midwife too.
Hope you feel better soon
