Spotting after over-exertion?

I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance. I'm seven weeks and everything has been pretty textbook so far, sore nipples, heavy breasts, hunger, thirst, tired all the time, running to the loo etc.

Tonight I got stuck about a mile away from home due to a bus going the wrong way. I had no way of getting home other than walking, through the driving wind and sleet so I set to it.

When I got home I was shaking from the cold and in tears from the sheer misery of it all (I'm a bit of a hormonal snotty mess this week) and then when I went to the loo I had a tiny bit of spotting. I went to bed for a while and it seems to have passed now (about an hour later).

This happened before, at five weeks, again after I'd pushed myself to practically run round the shopping centre on my lunch break. That time it passed quickly, with no pain etc and things went back to normal other than being excessively tired right afterwards. I read that spotting around that time isn't particularly unsual anyway so I wasn't too worried.

I'm seeing my midwife for my booking in appt next week, so obviously as long as nothing else has happened I'll bring it up then, but has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Yes, every time I have enough energy to do anything (which isnt that often now) I tend to overdo it then end up spotting or being otherwise ill in some way. I have accepted that my body is telling me something important and have adjusted my activity level.
You are still early in your pg and spotting can be implantation bleeds, stretching bleeds and lots of other things, but have you considered including a stress reducing activity in your new pg routine? I have found pg yoga great to force me to slow down and become more aware of my body and what it is telling me. Later on you could try aquanatal which is also great for relaxation.

Congrats on your pg by the way!

Thanks Jasmine. Feeling loads better today (well, pretty rubbish, but the good kind of rubbish lol) and still had no pain or further spotting so think it's just my body's way of telling me to chill out! Work already know I'm pregnant so I told them I've had a bad few days and they're looking after me wonderfully which is nice :)

I was having reflexology up until my BFP so am on the lookout for something to fill the gap, had considered yoga so will have another look into it, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately where I live people seem to slip pregnant women off to the sides and ignore them until they've had the baby, the nearest NCT classes are 50 odd miles away!

How far along are you?

Glad you are feeling a bit better Toria. Wow 50 miles away? are you in the hebrides or something?!
Reflexology sounds like heaven...or just a nice foot masaage mmmmm, would kill for one of those today.
I am 26 wks. Several mcs before and several bleeds in this pg...its hard to stay relaxed when the whole pg seems to be one big stress!
I'm glad work are looking after you, is this your first?

I'm in Inverness believe it or not, for the capital of the Highlands the services for pregnant women seem to be pretty naff. Obviously it could be that not much is listed online, and I'll ask the midwife on Thurs, but I can't find anything near me.

I am planning to go back to my reflexologist once my 12 week scan has been done and it's considered "safe" again, for pregnancy massage and some other lovely treatments she offers.

Yes it's my first, it's my first ever pregnancy as well, so everything's new and exciting and absolutely terrifying and as there's a history of MC in my family I think I'm finding it a bit hard to accept it could work out IYKWIM? Pretty sure it wont seem really real until someone actually tells me I'm not imagining things!

It sounds like you've had a bit of a rough ride of it, is this your first as well? I have everything crossed for you that things get easier, here's me complaining about being tired and some spotting!

I love Inverness! We have friends in Carrbridge and Skye and always seem to need to stop at Craigdons or Tiso to pick up outdoor supplies on the journey from one to the other. I'd be surprised if there wasnt an NCT group up there somewhere, or maybe something similar. Yes this will be my first and as an..ahem..older mum it might have to be my only too!

I think pg is destined to be one long stress. It doesnt get any easier. With so many tests and so much monitoring, you'd think it wouldnt be but every time I go for a check up there seems to be something else 'to keep our eye on' which never fails to raise the blood pressure! Dont forget that, funds allowing, it is possible to have private scans so if you cant wait til the 12 wk scan you could pay to have one for your peace of mind - kept me sane in the long wait.
Oh and dont panic if your pg symptoms disappear, get worse or otherwise change. At 7 wks you might start to get the dreaded morning sickness...or not...and a hormone surge too which might come when the placenta takes over the hormone production at around 8 wks. I certainly got the ms but the hormone surge caught me by surprise giving me hot sweats...but not everyone gets that.
Hows the snow up there? I gather you are still in the thick of winter?

ToriaPumpkinHead · 13/03/2011 16:53

See, I looked up private scans as well, I couldn't even find them! Did consider a trip back to Edinburgh (we went to uni there) just for one, but thought that might be a bit excessive... The closest NCT class on their website is in Moray. Will ask my midwife, they do seem to be a bit superstitious about technology up here so maybe everything's not online :)

I'm closing in fast on eight weeks and so far my symptoms have changed, disappeared, reappeared when I've least wanted them, left me almost asleep on the bathroom floor and prevented me sleeping at night, I'm pretty much expecting the unexpected by now hehehe. I've got a friend who developed Hyperemesis with both her pegnancies so currently I'm just glad I don't have that! Thanks for the warning about the hormone surge at eight weeks Grin

The snow is fairly thick on the ground, but it seems to be turning to rain now so hopefully it'll all wash away before I have to go to work tomorrow. My poor daffodils! They are all just little green shoots and now they're getting frozen again!
