anyone just found out and neurotic?

Has anyone just found out that they are pg, and are already completely neurotic? I am less than 5 weeks and terrified things will go wrong.

I am 34, this would be my first, and last month was the first ever TTC, and I sort of assumed it would take ages, and that I am a bit too lucky!

Also, how on earth do people who drink HIDE it for 3 months? Any tips much appreciated. 2 people have already asked in the first week due to me staying off the wine in the pub. Great to know people know that is literally the only reason I wouldn't drink ;)

hi,

congratulations!
i am 11 weeks now and been kinda neurotic and paranoid! I have my scan in next coupe of weeks. Took me approx 8 months aged 27 to get this bean :) Have so many friends who have had such upsetting news when pregnant, mmc and other losses so I won't believe it until I see it on the scan.

I have had hardly any symptoms too so that doesnt ease my mind!

RE: drinking, i am lucky in a way as dont have many friends so havent had to face that. also I am usually the driver as didn't drink that much. I was in Asda the other day and really craved an ice cold Blue Wkd lol that is about the only time that I have missed the alcohol!

Have you booked your mw appointment yet?
x

crazyhead · 10/03/2011 13:35

Glad to hear I am not the only paranoid one! It is quite funny knowing how to think about it when you've known lots of people with mmc etc, because you feel really excited but you want to protect yourself, too, cos you know it isn't always straightforward.

I am waiting for a call from mw at the moment

Good luck with your scan - that is likely to be massively reassuring!

Maybe I need to get a car and start driving more - that WOULD be a good excuse.....

Hello hello

Huge congratulations crazyhead! I completely empathise....I am 35 and 5.5 (the 0.5 is VERY important Wink), found out at 3.5 ( I know, call it 6th sense) and have been stressing out completely as have previously lost 2 at 6 weeks or so....I booked a private scan for next week and am just praying I get that far.

I have one trusted friend at work and she came up with a genius excuse for the not drinking - you're off alcohol for lent Smile

Huuuge luck - will be thinking of you .....

crazyhead · 10/03/2011 13:58

good luck to you too, lktoday - I'll keep my fingers crossed for your early scan!

Sorry about losing two - third time lucky I really hope ....and if you can get through the next couple of weeks then your chances will just be getting much better every day.

And in the meantime - hey, what's wrong with googling every thing that could possibly go wrong/be allowed or not allowed!

(I actually googled whether I could drink rose flavoured herbal tea safely today, which given I normally quaff glass after glass of vino is a right joke).

I love the Lent idea, and I'll DEFINITELY use it.

Anyway - big waves of luck to you ....

crazyhead thanks for the luck with the scan,
google has not been my friend lol

Yeah it is really tough when you have close friends who have gone through sad times, I will be totally bonkers if everything is ok and there is a little one in there :D
I just am not a very positive person as things dont seem to go right for me, but holding onto the hope that may all be ok!

I'm 34, first timer, got pg 2nd try (surprise!) and 10+4 weeks today. Getting gradually slightly less neurotic as days turn into weeks and bean(s?) are still on board.

I couldn't keep it quiet longer than a week or so because the nausea kicked in and flattened me.

I guess it's up to you whether you feel like you want to tell people or not. On one hand, more people know so if something goes wrong they'll ask about it, but on the other hand, it's support you could be having, so I guess it's swings and roundabouts.

Try not to worry too much. Think positively and enjoy the time before the nausea kicks in!

mamamona · 10/03/2011 14:59

Hello, and Congratulations!! When I first found out I was pregnant, best excuse for non-alcoholism was 'I'm on antibiotics'... but then try to use it sporadically because at three months people were thinking that I have got some seriously deadly infection and were wanting to avoid me! I love the suggestion for 'giving up alcohol for Lent'... you could use the antibiotic one after Lent, buying you a few days!

And I was totally neurotic too! I'm 24 and just got married in Sept, and found out I conceived ON my wedding night! I was in total shock because I hadn't planned on kids for another 4 years or so! But now, I'm totally enjoying it and loving the huge kicks, so rest assured, the neurotic behaviour does subside as you go along your pregnancy.

Stay smiling, and good luck with the nausea!

crazyhead · 10/03/2011 15:10

@backswardsinhighheels - great to hear a good story from another 34year-old-up-the-duff-swiftly person.

I might tell people quite soon, it is partly that my sister is about the give birth and if something went wrong I sort of don't want to dampen things as she tried for ages

@mamamona - wedding night! nicely done - in a oner! you must be fairly close now so good luck with the rest of the pg and thanks for the 'no booze excuse' tip

Huge congratulations to all and good luck with scans.

I'm 35 and this is my first, 7+2 weeks and trying very hard not to be neurotic, not helped by the lack of pregnancy symptoms, just very tender boobs oh and very slight bleeding which doesn't help with the neuroses! Just really struggling with getting my head around the fact that I am pregnant and the fear of losing what I didn't know I really wanted until a few weeks ago.

Same problem keeping it a secret, 1st night out drinking soda and was asked if I was pregnant 3 times, mum's suggested Lent but know my friends won't buy that one especially as given up smoking too. To that end haven't seen anyone for a couple of weeks because I'm also a rubbish liar and blush at the slightest thing Blush so the no doubt the secret will be out amongst my close friends this weekend which in a way I'm looking forward to because they're my best buddies for a reason.

escapeartist · 10/03/2011 18:27

Congratulations to all! So pleased to hear others are also neurotic :)

It is very early days for me, week 5, and have had "period pains" on and off since 8 DPO, which only adds to the neurosis and sends me to the loo to check I'm not bleeding on average every 30 mins... Just came back from a much needed mini-break with hubby and found out! Have been trying for 14 months, which I guess adds to the levels of neurosis (though I realise that in the grand scheme of things it is not THAT long).

Crazyhead the googling herbal tea made me laugh, as I did exactly the same, despite the fact that 4 days ago, before I knew I was pg I had wine...
Now.... how to keep sane?

laabama · 10/03/2011 21:38

I"m just as neurotic! I had a girly night out two nights after I found out and had to come up with some vaguely plausible excuse for not drinking. I think I pulled it off....

lktoday5 - I was also planning to use the Lent excuse! :)

I'm 5+6 and was also in first month of 'seeing what happens', so know I'm lucky but am completely paranoid about the whole thing and am even beginning to question myself as to whether or not I've imagined it all to date.

Briarwood - my neurosis is due in the main to lack of any real symptoms other than tender breasts!

If anyone's got any great ideas for keeping sane for the next 6 or 7 weeks, please let me know!!!!! :) Wine is clearly out of the question...

cowboylover · 10/03/2011 21:52

I was exactly the same and still am at 30+6!!

I think Lent is a great reason but dont feel to pressured to explain yourself. I work for a brewery so lots of drinking envolved on a regular basis so I made them feel guilty for asking me more than once if I said no!

Take the car if needed or similar and the time is going to go soooo fast and try enjoy what you can x

PS Google is not your friend but virtual 'window shopping' for all things baby related is great fun Grin

cowboylover · 10/03/2011 21:53

Sorry damm spelling! I will blame my new jelly brain

mashpot · 11/03/2011 20:25

Hi all,

I just got my BFP tonight and am already worrying! I was sure I wasn't pregnant this month because I've had period pains for a week and have just been waiting for it to arrive. Finally took a test just in case and it was positive.

Is it normal to have these crampy feelings?

Escapeartist you have reassured me, although I hope they don't last too long for either of us, mine are pretty much all day.

lolajane2009 · 11/03/2011 20:27

I am neurotic at 13 weeks.

Those crampy feels are completely normal mashpot.

stripeymummy · 11/03/2011 20:38

Mashpot, cramps are totally fine, had the same panic 2 weeks ago, and still have them, but the bean's still there!

Congratulations to mashpot and crazyhead.

Am totally neurotic, every twinge and i start panicking, the amount of times I've gone to the loo to check there's no blood Blush
I suppose it's the start of 18+ years of neuroses?! Hmm

Btw there is due in November thread in antenatal where the people are very welcoming if you're interested :)

mashpot · 11/03/2011 22:37

Oh dear, 18 years of worrying ahead, good point!

Thanks for reassurance, I will check out the November antenatal when it sinks in!

laabama · 11/03/2011 23:36

I couldn't find the November thread in antenatal! Probably just being thick but can someone point it out to me?
