I have just got my 1st scan appoitment in, and it is for next week, I will only be 8-10 weeks pregnant then, so I am thinking, is it worth going? Should I re-schedule?

I have spokent to my MW about my dates, and so she knows how pregnant I think I am and she sent for the scan. I am a bit worried as I had a terrible birth and wonder if this scan is being done as part of the Hospital keeping an eye on me, but it is not an official "early scan" and I have not been told that I need an early scan.

Am I making too much of this? Confused

Give the scanning department a ring and ask their advice.

They sent me for a dating scan, then I got my 20 weeks both fine :)

BikeRunSki · 09/03/2011 12:28

The first scan is just for dating. I had mine at 9 weeks with DS, then anomaly scan at 20 weeks as normal.

JoyceBarnaby · 09/03/2011 12:31

I wouldn't worry - as the first scan is just for dating, 8-10 weeks is fine and normal. In fact anything from 8-13 weeks is quite standard, I believe.

I'd call the scanning department. They might have started doing wary dating scans (although I thought most trusts only did those if there was uncertainty over dates), or they might have made a mistake, or it might be something different. Call and find out what it's for and then you can decide whether to go, reschedule or cancel.

JoyceBarnaby · 09/03/2011 12:35

I just wanted to ask if you've been given any other reason to think this might be classed as an early scan? As I said, I can't see that it would be at 8-10 weeks, but was just wondering if anything else was bothering you?

owlbooty · 09/03/2011 12:35

Depends if they are doing nuchal fold testing at the same time as the dating scan. If so, you will be a little bit too early for that - but as others have said the scanning dept will be able to rearrange you if that's the case (this is what I had to do).

JenniL1977 · 09/03/2011 12:38

They'll need to give you a dating scan so they can be sure of exactly how pregnant you are - so if then you decide to have a nuchal scan and associated tests, they can do it at the right time (there is a very short window for it). This should now be free on the NHS if you're in England (I'm not sure about Scotland and Wales).
If you don't want the nuchal, then it'll just be your standard dating scan.

Tangle · 09/03/2011 12:39

That should be early, not wary...

ongakgak · 09/03/2011 12:46

Ok thanks for your advice everyone. We have requested a nuchal fold thingy too, so I think I best call the Hospital and just check that out.

joyce Just a terribel birth 1st time around with the hospital being negligent and it was a very big deal at the time. So I wonder if they saw my name and were like- Shit its ongakgak we best get her in quick and be really nice to her! I am under the consulatnat and MW- but wont see the consultant until I am 20+ weeks. There were complications, but they were caused at the birth by staff. I think they have suspicions about a low birth weight of my 1st DS too that they want to keep an eye on, but again that will be much later in the pregnancy.
