Subchorionic haematoma :-(((

Just had my dating scan (which will have to be repeated anyway as I'm only 6+5) and the sonograpehr found a subchorionic haematoma Sad. She told me it was nothing to worry about but, of course, I couldn't help myself and immediately googled when I got home.

The baby's heartbeat was strong and clear but the haematoma looked pretty big to my untrained eyes. SadSad

I have had no bleeding but do get cramps and a bit of backache occasionally.

Please come and reassure me.

My daughter had one, it caused quite a large bleed at 7 weeks which continued on and off till it fizzled out at 12 weeks, she is now 27 weeks :)

Thank you. It's a little pre-emptive I know as everything might be fine but it doesn't help that MIL has already told me that she 'feels sorry for DS' and told DH, after we told her I was pregnant, that 'One grandchild is quite enough' Sad

Ignore your MIL, it's nothing to do with her whether you have one child or one hundred and I'll bet DS will love having a brother or sister to play with and I'll be no less loved.

Secondly, avoid asking Dr Google because he gets hysterical and causes too much worry. My GP always says that if he had his way it would be illegal for Google to answer medical queries because it causes more trouble than it solves. You should go to your midwife or doctor with questions or for information, much better.

Lastly, try not to worry too much. My cousin had the same thing and had a large bleed at about 9 weeks when it came away followed by another at 10 weeks when a smaller one came away. She was convinced she had miscarried but her little girl just turned three and is a normal toddler.

Thanks LilTyke I should know better really (as I myself am medically trained but have very little knowledge/experience in obstetrics). So the problem is I tend to look at the articles aimed at professionals, and they present the cold hard facts as well as the worst case-scenarios rather bluntly.

Just got a call from my GP. It is apparently very small and should hopefully reabsorb on it's own. Smile

I had one with dd4 and had a little bit of bleeding. Try not to google and also rest up as much as possible.

VivaLeBeaver · 08/03/2011 19:30

They are really quite common, I had one with DD at the 20week scan. DD is 10 in a couple of weeks.
