i am 35+4 and i have been feeling really down in the dumps, having really bad braxton hicks and non stop pain in my lower back. when i walk i feel like the babies head is sitting in between my legs....is this all normal? or does it mean labour could be starting soon?? please help me xx

Sounds normal - but give your midwife/hospital a ring to put your mind at rest.

Littlefish · 07/03/2011 13:45

Yes, it could be starting soon, but on the other hand, it might not be. Sorry - that's really unhelpful I know!

I know that my SIL's labour started with back pain.

Are you braxton hicks regular? Have you tried timing them?

How long have you been feeling like this?

doodledee · 07/03/2011 13:46

Yep all normal sounding to me. It is miserable and tiring when you get to this stage and you're entitled to feel crappy and a bit sorry for yourself. Try a heat pack on lower back, the lavender wheat bags are great. It'll all soon be a distant memory x

You've asked about this before I think? You've been uncomfortable for a while and dreaming of early labour for weeks/months.

Have you talked to your midwife? Seen a physio? You don't have to suffer in silence.

claire87 · 07/03/2011 13:50

haven't been timing them, been feeling like this since yesterday :( its not nice, i also think i had a bit of a show yesterday i have a blob of brownish coloured discharge but dont really know what to do about that lol i just thought that was normal x

You've started threads before about back pain being so bad you're crying and I remember you posting at 30 weeks desperate to bring on labour because you hurt so much.

Have you talked to your midwife? You've been in pain for most of your pregnancy you've said before. What are they doing for you?

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2011 13:56

You also asked a couple of weeks ago if they'd do a sweep for you to induce labour iirc?

I sound stalkerish, I'm really not. I just remember giving you advice before and can't remember you ever saying if you'd asked for help from actual midwives/doctors.

claire87 · 07/03/2011 13:57

i have been in awful pain from day one with this pregnancy :( midwife or doctor are doing nothing they just say it will be over soon...i didnt want labour to start at 30 weeks i just wanted to know how people did bring it on...would not risk having a baby that early just cause i was uncomfortable x

See your midwife. What have they said about the pain you have had through pregnancy?

If you've had pain throughout the pregnancy it tends to worsen in the latter stages.

reikizen · 07/03/2011 14:00

paracetamol, warm bath, take it easy. Baby's head between your legs is normal 'fixing pains' some midwives call them. Get yourself tested for a UTI just in case. If it is your first baby you should have a midwives appt soon so talk it over with her. If you start to labour ring the labour ward so they can get some steriods into you (if you are still under 36 weeks).

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2011 14:02

I think you said you wanted to bring labour on from 35 weeks.

People suggested you self refer to the pregnancy physio. Did you do that?

claire87 · 07/03/2011 14:03

they have just said its so sore cause i am tiny framed but this is my second pregnancy and my first one was so easy to carry no bother at all x

i am not going to try and bring on labour for love nor money...longer its in there the better how do i contact a pregnancy physio?

I would just google physio/osteopath in your area and find a local one, give them a ring and see if they have experience of dealing with pregnant women. You will have had the baby by the time and NHS referral comes through so you may have to bite the bullet and pay if you can. Pregnancy can be very uncomfortable, if no specific cause is found then yoga, paracetamol and relaxation are a good bet. If it is really bad, your GP may be happy to prescribe codeine too.
