Hair removal cream?

Okay, stupid question - can you use hair removal cream in pregnancy?

I should know this, it's not my first pregnancy, but for whatever reason I don't.

Anyone know?

oooh I hope someone answers this one... I haven't read anything that says no but you never know!

d0gFace · 06/03/2011 20:36

Bump.

CBear6 · 06/03/2011 20:46

Even my Google-fu isn't working, can't find any sites that agree. Some say it's okay, some say it isn't, others say I should be ashamed for such vanity while pregnant, lots of hysteria out there.

I use it sometimes, nothing on the leaflet advises against it although I think you have to use common sense as skin can be a lot more sensitive during pg.

CBear6 · 06/03/2011 21:03

Thank you thornykate! I'm getting sick of razors and can't be bothered with waxing - time to get some Veet!

Oh dear, this never even crossed my mind Blush I used some a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure it's OK, as long as you don't eat it or something Confused

MrsBloomingTroll · 06/03/2011 21:20

I avoided it in last pregnancy but this time have decided to alternate with waxing. Hate waxing though.

niamh29 · 06/03/2011 21:36

I have used it every pregnancy towards the end, this is DC3, just when shaving gets awkward, it's never had any adverse affects so I'm sure it's not the worst thing in the world to use. I don't think it's absorbed into the bloodstream so it can't really harm the baby.

KatieWatie · 07/03/2011 12:33

I've been using a Phillips Lumea since before Xmas (before I conceived). Now I've no idea if it's ok to continue using it or not, but if cream is doubtful then I'm guessing Lumea is a big no-no!

jazz412 · 07/03/2011 16:13

whats a lumea? intrigued!

KatieWatie · 07/03/2011 17:16

jazz it's a gun that flashes UV light (that's the best way I can think of to describe it) and it allegedly eventually stops hair growing completely or at least makes it really thin down. You have to use it directly onto your skin and it penetrates right down into the hair follicle.

jimper · 07/03/2011 18:07

Everything I have read says no.....

jazz412 · 08/03/2011 11:02

wow! has it worked so far? I want one - I bet it takes a long time if you have to do each individual hair...

KatieWatie · 08/03/2011 15:27

Yeah it's worked really well - i've only done it about 3 or 4 times now, every 2 weeks so you catch the different stages of growth. Hardly anything growing back under my arms/bikini line, and on my legs the hair is a lot thinner and softer.

It's not individual hairs, but the 'flash window' is very small so it takes quite a while.... they're not cheap but I figured it was worth it considering the amount i'd save in the long run.

I'm going to look in the instructions tonight and see if it says anything about not using it if pregnant Confused

jazz412 · 08/03/2011 17:14

well when you have no hair left to get rid of send it my way as you won't need it any more and I can't afford one haha!
You should start charging people to use it, I'm sure many women would pay £20 for 3 or 4 times to never have hair again! sooner or later you'd make the price up and maybe even go into profit!!

CBear6 · 08/03/2011 17:42

That's sounds like a great little gadget. I hate shaving, luckily I don't grow underarm hair ever but it's a pain shaving legs.

jazz412 · 09/03/2011 12:38

Cbear - you don't have underarm hair?? LUCKY B*TCH!I think I've turned into a gorilla since becoming preggo!

KatieWatie · 09/03/2011 14:56

jazz I was going to actually share it with my mum (it's all very hygenic) but sadly they have a limited number of flashes, think it's 50,000, and you pretty much need them all. You can't buy replacement bulbs you just have to buy the whole unit!!

Also they won't sign up to saying you will NEVER grow the hair back, it's sort of implied but they're not committing themselves IYKWIM

jazz412 · 09/03/2011 17:37

urgh. I am now annoyed, was thinking when I get richerer (when is that ever going to happen with a baby on the way?!?! lol) that I would invest in one and then make some cheeky casheroo from it. BUM

CBear6 · 09/03/2011 19:41

jazz, when I'm pregnant I grow two or three tiny little underarm wisps that could barely even be called hairs, I pluck them out with tweezers and it takes them about six weeks or so to grow back. When I'm not pregnant though my underarms are as bald as a coot. It's probably a good thing, I can barely shave my legs without injury so I don't want to be putting a razor anywhere near my underarms!

I know what you mean about gorilla though, if I leave my legs for longer than a few days they start to resemble some sort of rain forest. I'm sure I'm having a boy.

so you have hair elsewhere then. that made me feel a bit better!
I'm long overdue some hair eradication atm, poor DP lol I seriously am contemplating making a wig out of my leg hair...
