i know its not healthy will have fruit and veggies later! promise. I just brought a cheese and onion pasty from tescos, half way through my dh says to me can you eat that?! and the packaging says soft cheese, i didnt even think to look! im sure there isnt a lot in it as it was quite far down the ingredients list! do you reckon such a small amount is ok, or am i worrying over nothing?

I would eat it. As long as you're not eating brie or stilton or anything like that I wouldn't worry. Enjoy your pasty Grin

I wouldnt worry to be honest.

A lot of soft cheese like Philadelphia and others along the same lines are pasteurised and usually when it's a soft cheese used as an ingredient in something else (like a pasty) it likely would have been too so it probably would have been fine.

I just saw the word soft cheese and thought panic mode! I havent ever really had to think about any of this before! Thank you though for all your replies! Im sure there will be something else next week for me to worry about! Grin

please please please don't get in a tizz about food. I must have written this post a million times but so many people come on here freaking out because they've eaten something "banned". The only issue with things like unpasteurised cheese, pate and rare red meat is the very very slight chance that they may have listeria. Given the stringent food safety laws in this country, it is HIGHLY unlikely. Eggs are fine, all UK hens are vaccinated against salmonella. If you like these kinds of foods, you could always let your DP eat them and if he is fine 24 hours later then you know they are ok. I am not advocating merrily stuffing yourself with these things everyday but really don't make your life a misery for the coming months if you do "accidently" eat something "wrong". Oh, and congratulations on your pregnancy - please enjoy it!

Trixie that's a really good post. I'm going out for a meal on friday and I know the only thing I'll want from the menu is steak, which has got to be rare. I'm only 6 weeks pg but feel sick all the time. I'm hungry alot too, but there is so little that I actually fancy, the thought of most food makes me gag! So I think I'll go for the rare steak. It's a very very nice restaurant so the meat will be of very foog quality. It may also help me to hide the fact that I'm pg (although how I'm going to explain my lack of drinking I don't know!) Smile.

OP soft cheeses are fine, it's just the inpasturised stuff you've got to be carefull of. Enjoy your next pasty!

Don't beat yourself up - we all take risks every day. Travelling by car is WAY more dangerous than eating a runny egg or rare steak. Use your common sense and you'll be fine.
