Posting here as well as Health if anyone else has been the same.

I have been diagnosed with an EColi UTI so having a course of antibiotics.

I told my boss and she said as I am contagious I should not come to work?

Is this correct? I have not been advised by the hospital that I am or told any special precautions I should take. I am going back on Monday so will ask again then but for info when I am home.

Has anyone got an experience on this or advise? Thanks in advance

I had this when I was pregnant last year and was not told by Drs, mws or work that it was contagious or to stay at home. I just had a course of antibiotics and it cleared up.

Give your mw or gp a call on monday to clarify or see wat nhs direct say.
AFAIK utis aren't contagious.

Hope you feel better soon.

Unless your job involves you going around peeing on everyone you work or come into contact with, I'm failing to see how you could be contagious to them!

I mean, I'm assuming here that you wash your hands after going to the toilet, but even so, it would have to be a some sort of mega-EColi that could jump out of the toilet and go around nfectin people Hmm

The uti has implications for you and the baby, nobody else. That said... if you're going to be paid for time off sick (ie I presume you're not very close to maternity leave so they can't force it on you early) because your boss is a twat ill informed, then go for it! Grin But if taking time of unnecessarily would stress you out (ie you'd return to a pile of work that nobody else can/would do) then maybe it's worth telling your boss they're a twat ill informed and back it up with some advice from a doctor or nhs direct, or somesuch.

I have worked in microbiology for 15 yrs now and have never heard of anything like this?! Oh well Who am I to say..... I think your boss is maybe being over precautious. I mean unless you plan on wiping your self on everyone after a wee or not washing your hands then I dont get it?! Also sometimes if you have a UTI there can be drops on the toilet seat so long as this is wiped clean and you wash your hands I dont see the issue?! The other way to address it is take the antibiotics then have a urine culture done if its gone then there is no reason not to go back to work Grin

Thanks all!

Due to other complications I am finishing work this coming Friday anyway so just wanted the week to clear up and sort things out before I go off for 12 months. And I dont want everyone else thinking im going to give them something.
