Dating Scan- thermal picture?

MrsBakerNeeld · 04/03/2011 19:30

Just got my dating scan letter through for end of March and they've offered me a thermal picture of baby for £2. Anyone know what a thermal picture is? I googled it but nothing really came up.

Thanks!

Ah yes, I've seen one of those - its a thermal image..err, that doesnt help much does it? I'll see if I can find an example and send you a link

The pictures look like normal pictures on shiny paper, but its thermal paper - so don't put the pictures on a radiator when you get home! They do scan OK though :)

It is the typical scan picture. They are just printed on thermal paper, so explaining the name.

Ah hang on they might just mean a normal scan picture on thermal paper rather than the thermal imaging I've seen done which is actually alot more expensive that £2 - thats more likely

It's just the print out from your scan. The black and white one. They use a thermal printer (which is why you must never put it in a photocopier or scanner, it'll turn black). It's sort of plasticy rather than paper.

Some hospitals will give you pics from your scan for free, some ask for a donation and some charge. I guess there isn't a medical reason why you'd need a copy so your hospital has decided to introduce a charge.

Oh right, makes more sense now! The hospital charge a small fee for them, is it worth it just for fancy paper? Does anyone have one?

Ahh thanks happycamel, it'll be the same as my 8wk scan then. They'd confused me with their jargon lol.
