OVERDUE!!!!

I thought I would start this thread for anyone out there who, like me, is now overdue! I thought it would be a good place to air your frustrations/anxieties/worries and general complaints! Or maybe there is someone out there who loves being pregnant so much is actually enjoying being overdue!

My major concern - this is my 3rd baby and have planned a home birth - if I go over 14 days I will have to be induced and have a hospital birth! xx

Can I join please, not overdue til tomorrow but already feeling very frustrated and annoyed as Id somehow manage to convince myself that this baby was going to come early. Wishful thinking eh?

Went 14 days over with my 1st DC so am now thinking Im headed that way once again.

How much overdue are you hails?

Hope you get the homebirth you want!

hails35 · 04/03/2011 18:21

Only 1 day over - which is very quickly moving to 2 days! I also had convinced myself baby was coming early - as the original date given by midwives was 12th Feb - this was changed at my scan! So actually I feel like I have been pregnant FOREVER!!

Hi ladies, I'm overdue too, will by 41 weeks tomorrow! I'm just really looking forward to meeting baby, but baby is obviously too comfy where it is. I've got an induction date booked for next Saturday but hopefully baby will decide to make an appearance before then. Xxx

Hattie05 · 04/03/2011 21:59

Not stricly over due - my due dates tomorrow, but feeling very impatient. Had sweep on Thursday and midwife said 4/5ths engaged so convinced myself he'll be here by the morning!

I went 14 days over with my first, but my other two have been born just before and just after their due dates so i like to think your body goes that overdue with first because it hasn't done it before - subsequent babies won't take so long! - totally unscientific theory of mine there! Smile

Homebirth here too so always fearful of going so far and having to go to hospital - think i'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming tbh.

Its just like waiting for Christmas morning as a kid isn't it. I'm sat up reading mumsnet but i keep thinking - if i go to bed now it'll come sooner!

Are you asking me starlight?

I only mean if i go another 2 weeks of not labouring - but i sincerely hope that won't happen as babes engaged already. Was just agreeing with op's fears.

StrangewaysHereICome · 04/03/2011 22:12

Oh Hails snap! 5 days over now, tomorrow will be 6 and I am planning a homebirth too. This is my third too, dd1 was on her due date, and dd2 10 days early (homebirth too) and I was convinced this one would be early. I definitely feel the clock ticking now I am nearly a week over. I too dread the thought of hospital and induction. The mw is coming tomorrow and will no doubt talk about induction/sweeps. The baby has been 3/5th engaged for 3 weeks now and I have had lots of false alarms which are driving me nuts Confused.

Let's hope there is some action soon Grin.

I think Starlight's point is that unless it is medically indicated (eg failing placenta) then of course you don't HAVE to go to hospital and be induced because you are 42 weeks. They cannot drag you in and force the drip in your arm.

You can ask for expectant management and wait for baby to come along of it's own accord. NICE guidelines say this should be offered as an alternative to induction but often isn't. And as such, you can still have the homebirth you planned.

I am aware that you can refuse induction, but here they won't deliver at home if past 14 days. And i imagine as much as i currently feel i'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming - it would be very difficult to stand up to every professional telling you induction would be best for baby as ultimately thats all i want.

Just hear horror stories of induction that i would rather not go through. But certain i won't get that far anyway so not big deal!

Flisspaps · 04/03/2011 22:25

But Hattie - they CAN'T refuse to attend to you!

Hattie05 · 04/03/2011 22:26

I know this, but still not nice situation is it!

More likely be paramedics attending me - not so pleasant!

LOL starlight

Seriously this is no big deal for me, as i say i'm not expecting to go much further anyway. Was talking theoretically with OP that i agree would hate to get to that stage.

I have fab midwives who delivered my last two at home also. All i'm thinking is because i trust and respect them so much if i were to go over 14 days and they tell me id be safer in hospital it'd be hard to ignore them as i have complete faith in them.

I know i have my rights etc etc, i'm talking practically i'd have to consider the dangers of going too far past due date etc.

But anyway - hopefully i'll be labouring in the next few hours and announcing the safe arrival to you alL! Grin

Flisspaps · 04/03/2011 22:43

I believe the risk of stillbirth increases from 0.03% to a whopping 0.06% after 42 weeks, was reading up on it last week.

But of course you WILL go into labour long before that. Go and do some lunges and jumping jacks or something.

I can't say for certain as I was looking at 42 weeks as that's what I went to.

I think the 0.03% is from term - 42 weeks. Then 0.06% is 42 weeks onwards. So whilst it doubles, it's doubling from a very small figure anyway.

A bit OT anyway, sorry OP!

K8HB · 05/03/2011 01:56

Have you tried having acupuncture as an alternative to try and get things moving? I am at 39 weeks but have seen an acupuncturist throughout my pregnancy who has been brilliant and she's seen lots of patients especially when overdue with some success. Especially if you are planning a home birth it might be a preferable option to start with? Good luck though and I really hope things start moving rapido!

hails35 · 05/03/2011 11:24

Hiya all! I honestly thought they only let you go 14 days over tbh. But I am in so much pain - ALL the time now - that I think I will do just about anything now.

I am very grumpy and my 2 boys (and my husband - but he doesn't count quite so much!!) are suffering!
Fingers crossed baby comes soon! The thought of any more nights like the last few fills me with complete dread. xxx

OP posts:
cheapFlower · 05/03/2011 11:55

have you tried a sweep?

my DDs were both late. DD1 came 12 days later after an induction (decided thereafter that I will never ever have another induction). Managed to go 15 days over with DD2 (I think a membrane sweep finally triggered labour).

hails35 · 05/03/2011 12:24

Having a sweep on Monday - went to see mw day before my due date and she wouldn't do a sweep - how mean!! Bump is really low now though and I had a show yesterday so please send all your labour vibes...

OP posts:
Hattie05 · 06/03/2011 21:36

Baby boy born this morning 4.30am! All well and healthy so looks like my sweep could have helped - who knows?

Good luck everyone xxx
