Anyone else been told they had a retroverted uterus? Has their righted themselves or has it stayed retroverted all the way through?

It rises up and forward, and after my first pregnancy mine sort of stayed tipped forwards, afaik. I remember having a smear and the nurse said it didn't look retroverted but only a scan would tell and it wasn't an issue anyway.

I do and mine has come forward, I am 25 wks. I was told it would in 99% of cases but very occasionally due to past infection it could be held back by scar tissue. Dont know whether it goes back afterwards or not but it doesnt seem to make a difference in pg

mine is and has moved up into a normalish position, it will probably go back after the baby is born as its a family trait and my mothers and grandmothers all did. We have terrible times at smears as they can never find the cervics! I mean come on doctors/nurses its not that big down there, it cant be that hard to find!

I've got one - no problems in pregnancy and it went back after childbirth. No problems with smears either - which doctors are you going to?!

lolajane2009 · 04/03/2011 15:38

Mine wasnt picked up in routine fertility tests, including ultrasound, years ago so was wondering why it was when I was pregannt.

Bunnyfrance, somewhere in southern hampshire. I know its stupid!

I have one. With DS it was retroverted at 12 week scan but had corrected by 20 weeks, then went back to it's usual state afterwards. This time it's the same so far, the midwife today commented that she was having to scan low down because it hasn't straightened up yet but says it will in time. Supposedly if it doesn't it can get itself wedged against the bladder and pelvis but can be freed using specific exercises so it should affect pregnancy at all.

You need to change doctors, green Grin

I think I read somewhere that it's 10% of women who have a retroverted uterus.

CBear6 · 04/03/2011 19:58

Gah, shouldn't affect pregnancy - for whatever reason I wrote that it should affect it.

I've heard it's very common too bunnyfrance and most ladies don't find out until they're pregnant or go for some sort of uterus scan.

I have one. It didn't affect first two pregnancies, but this time before it righted itself at about 12 weeks, I had a very uncomfortable few weeks where I couldn't pee properly as it was blocking the urethra. Luckily, I didn't need a catheter. Leaning forward while sitting on the loo helped (dignity goes out the window when pregnant).
